Re: help identify turbo for rebuild kit purchase
That's just the backplate number. Looks like a BW compressor cover for the smaller 46 trim GT3271 turbo, using a stage III exhaust wheel. 99% sure its a T3 turbine "small" shaft using a 270* thrust bearing.
What "kit" do you get? .. More than likely your standard 270* "T3/T4" full Garrett rebuild kit. But you get a GARRETT rebuild kit, not a Borg-Warner.
No more bumping.. give it a shot and good luck.

You can't rebuild it on your own entirely... it needs to be rebalanced...
and you can get a 360* thrust bearing upgrade... That CHRA is pretty standard on all of the older "T" series turbos

Re: help identify turbo for rebuild kit purchase
I see....
come to find out I have asked around and nobody round these parts wants to balance a turbo , let alone rebuild one...
I am going to get a CHRA replacement from ATP turbo in Hayward Ca....
It seems to be easier, yet a replacement costs about $630 out the door....

What you purchase from ATP turbo WILL NOT FIT what you have there at all.

Yea a CHRA replacement is more for GT series turbos.
Now you can get a replacement "T" series CHRA like yours but it will be unloaded, that is, no bearings or seals, no wheels.
As far as balancing, look for a diesel shop around you, because most service mainly turbo diesels they normally have an in-house balancing system (or someone local that does it for them)... I know the turbo diesel shops around me normally charge 80 bucks to do a centrifugal balance on a cartridge/wheel assembly and they do good work.
Thats my suggestion, otherwise you'd have to ship the unit out to some place online (eek!) as most online places are hit or miss when it comes to proper balancing practices
