Default HELP! Generic MAP sensor?

I picked up some turbo parts and the guy said he'll just throw in the generic MAP sensor he was running since he won't have use for it anymore. There's no labeling or markings on it at all. Is there any way to test it to see if it's good and use it? Or should I just toss it and find another?

Btw, he said it is a 3 bar, but I don't want to just take his word for it. Hence the reason for wanting to test it.

if there are no markings on it at all, I'd say trash it and get something quality that you can actually identify

I was wondering about this too. Sellers on ebay are selling 3bar map sensors which are unbranded for well under than what name brands are selling for. Are they actually the same thing and just rebranded? Sorry fot the thread jack.

I had one that would cause lean spots since it would go from reading boost to vacuum intermittently. Spent the money on an omni power one and haven't had any problems since.

they are NOT the same thing. Hell, the only 3Bar Map sensor I trust is a GM "older school" style (Funny, I don't trust GM for anything else, except their electronics). That whole "fits like the OEM DENSO" just doesn't work when in some ways they're all fakes.

Ok, I'll stop my ranting now.

Lol, please rant on, Shodan! Can you post a link to this older school sensor and are they still sold?

Absolutely. The GM 3Bar Map Sensor is an AC Delco part (As a division of Delphi) that is still used today. Even rebadged by several companies as part of the their engine management systems.

GM 3Bar Map sensor part number is gm# 12223861
This version is expensive at over $129

But the cross-reference for the GMC is now 16040749 and directly replaces the original GM#12223861

PG AutoParts.com GM 3 Bar Map

They reference a lot of models from the late 80s early 90s and still available.

Look familiar from HalTech?

Best place to get them..
GM SENSORS.. DIYAutoTune.com

It may be inconvenient, and not look as pretty as the Hondata or omnipower, but not as many chances of fakeness.. and won't fail...

stupid Hondata nonsense

Again, it's a matter of trusting the equipment. Until about 2008, I've never heard of MAP sensors of any kind going bad. Once the Omnipower /Hondata OEM replacements were introduced, it wasn't until the counterfeits mixing in with the legit ones, I was like, "nah, not worth the risk".

Get a GM, never look back

Im currently using AEM map sensors. I've used Omnipower successfully without issue and I had a motorola 2.5 bar that very quickly took a crap due to the cheesy housing IMO. Wouldnt recommend
