help!! coolant in oil.....
well today i drained the oil and wtf figures a milky substance comes out instead of oil I did a compression test with 175 all the way across the board . setup is a b16 stock block with turbo stuff. Motor hasn't even seen boost yet. im leaning towards headgasket, but i figured it would have lost compression somewhere. anyone got any ideas thanks -tim

check to see if there's oil in your coolant system... how many miles on the block?
compression wont always be low if its the head gasket... it's possible there's a leak only when your pushing the motor and things heat up.
thats all I can think of right now... good luck!

When i had coolant mixing in my oil & it was under 40 miles my turbo was toast and my cams were damaged and also the bearings on the bottom end. Coolant is not good in your oil. even if it is your HG your probably not gonna be happy about all the damage that has occured. Here is some pics as you can see the mixed coolant and the damage to the cams it had caused.

those cams don't look bad to me... I think you can still use them.
but yeah milk does a body good, NOT a motor...
just so you know I speak from experience...
but anyway, do the things suggested above and let us know the results. do a leak down before you pull the head.

Well the cams were black Im guessin some type of coating that they have on them. But they were shinny and most of the black was gone when i pulled my head. But...
Yeah I used the cams again, but @ 40 miles the mains and rod bearings were scored also and turbo had to get rebuilt. O yeah I been here 2 not fun

you said you have turbo stuff? A turbo I am assuming? Is it oil/water cooled?
If so it is possible that the seals in the turbo are bad and the coolant and oil is mixing there. Is there signs of oil in the coolant?

As far as I know there is no way that the oil and coolant can mix in the turbo. The water jacket is completely sealed off from the oil passage, there is no seal or anything like that between them.
My guess is the problem is head gasket related.

Re: help!! coolant in oil..... (primeredbeast)
take the head and block to a machine shop have them check for straitness on both head surface and block deck before putting it together. it's possible the head is warped causing the leak...
you should find out exactly why you had milk before putting the pistons/rods in...
I hope the answer comes up man

Re: help!! coolant in oil..... (turbosi03)
well i looked at everything closer and i caught it right when it happened i believe one of my pistons was a little cleaner than all the other ones and i believe thats where the gasket started to separate im gonna take the head to get checked out here before too long good thing is the car only ran for probably a minute or so we'll see what happens

Re: help!! coolant in oil..... (primeredbeast)
If you suspect coolant in your oil, try a UOA:
http://www.blackstone-labs.com/
This is one of MANY labs which performs this kind of service.
Tell them what you expect/fear is happening and for $20 you'll have a lot better answer than you will with a compression or pump down test. UOAs can detect a trace coolant leak by looking at the additives and the iron and lead wear levels.
And yes, even trace amounts of glycal will cause wear metals to spike.
