looks like a sleeved block, not a block guard.

Ding ding ding...Golden Eagle sleeved block. You can carefully scrape the carbon off with a single edge razor blade and some scotchbrite.

Just make sure everything is in order and assemble it. It will continue to have the "black stuff" only few minutes of starting the motor anyway.

just leave the carbon alone... just assemble it, if you want to clean it up afterwards run some water though it.

I'm very curious, how do you end up with a block and not know it was sleeved? The difference between a sleeved block and stock block is about $600-900. Either you thought you were getting ripped off, or someone besides you & the seller got ripped off...

Exactly what I was thinking. That or the block is [freak]ed up and he doesn't know it.

Looks fine to me. My old head did that cause it had a composite head gasket. No biggie.

You could always get it decked.

Its hard to estimate hp on just a block. If this block is genuinely ok, I would build the head (valves, springs, retainers and possibly cams) .. that block (with a built head) can push 500hp .. this is of course assuming everything is healthy and you join a good turbo setup to it and supporting mods.

You dont have to have a GTxxR (ballbearing) turbo to make good power, this bandwagon is getting out of control. A simple thrust bearing (normal turbo) will make 400 Hp.

There are many ways to make HP. yes you can make 400hp on a stock head, just don't rev it higher than stock specifications. You can make 400hp on a non-sleeved block.

If you're concerned about cash, I would look into a t3/t4 turbo. Such as a 60-1, you could even use a 57trim turbo, it may just require a higher boost level.

X2.. and by the way you type your posts you are hard to understand. Sounds like your not to familiar with turbo setups, my advise is find a good reputable shop and go talk to them and learn up

are you talking about a straight t3 turbo? If you are I think you are selling yourself short. Straight t3 turbos max out around 350whp, I would at least get a t3/t4.
