Default help...b16-t.....ls-t

I recently got a 90 hatch and im looking to make it pretty fast...(low 12's). I have been looking around and i def. wanna go turbo...but i can't decide LS or B16...any one running 12's with this setup..i would love some input...whats cheaper...whats easier to make around 400whp on high boost? and do i have to get pistons/rods to push that kind of power? thanks for any input

i think you need to search a little more. the main question you should ask yourself is how much am i looking to spend ? am i going DD ? with that being said you need to think about gearing an suspension as those are the main things that get your ET's low

LS turbo....its cheaper and you can always upgrade it with a VTEC head later...

the LS has a longer stroke and more displacement....it would be my choice for the money

An LS engine will probably be cheaper than a B16. And before turbo it will have more torque also. Go with LS

unless you get ripped off hard, the LS will be cheaper

For DD, you'll want torque.

For the track...you'll want torque for slicks or a mild setup. B16's with serious traction are easier to bog off the line.

For 400whp, all you need is the right turbo and a good tune - for it to last a week. Rods and pistons are essential for an LS, and you definately want diff pistons in the b16. Many people have done 400whp in a mildly built (pistons/rods) LS, and since you can keep your $1000 in forged/rebuild parts with a vtec head swap, I highly recommend the LS.

You don't need anywhere near 400hp to run 12s. More like 250hp. An LS will do that easily, bone stock.

why does his age matter ?

to OP: now that you know your gonna DD the car now you need to look at tranny choices either keep the stock one an change the final gear OR go with a ITR tranny basically your gonna want to stay in the power range after shifting.
and your choice of eagles and je would be fine the better would probably be
eagle big bolts an arias or cp pistons 9:1 comp with stock head

because he needs to get his feet wet before he goes off and tries to make 450whp. he needs to aim at learning to drive a STOCk car correctly first. thats how people get hurt on the street. inexperienced drivers with more hp than they can handle.

most def agree!!

but on the topic of his car, you can build a boosted LS pretty reasonable. eagle rods, JE... maybe upgraded valvetrain if you have the extra $$
ive seen a few boosted ls making damn good power

have you ever driven let alone ridden in a fwd car with 400whp? do you know how much that is?

honestly, start small. and when you get used to the power then you can shoot for the stars. cause with the attitude you have you're going to hurt yourself.

i'd hold off on the IM till the turbo was bolted on. you'll lose more power than you'll ever gain.

i wish it were as easy as that.

well I agree with the people that say 400whp is too much for a beginner...

I couldnt imagine myself startin out for only a couple months then goin for 400whp...
I drove a D-series for almost a year before I went to a b16 swap...
then another year before I went to boost...
now ive been driving for 4 years now and Im only NOW goin above 400whp...

At least hes sayin he wants to do it at the track

exactly. at least you know whats right and whats wrong. im not trying to put you down for wanting to make 400+whp. but just start off slow first and work your way up.
