Default Heat issues with tansmission. Need advice. HELP!!!!

Ok, here's the story:

I got a 97 Civic Coupe W/GSR motor with t3/t4 turbo setup 10lbs, .60/.63 ar's 57 trim. Fluidyne radiator, slim fans, spoon thermostat etc....

When I drive for like a half hour or more the heat from the motor gets so excessive I can hardly shift gears anymore, almost like there is no fluid in my transmission. I checked it and it is full, I'm using GM modified synchromesh. My temp gauge still stays normal for the most part, right in the middle, egt temps at a steady 90 mph is around 800C (around 1400 F). I have a grind in third gear that is only getting worse also, don't know if this is contributing to not being able to shift into any gear easily, I almost have to double clutch all the time now. This only happens after a while of driving like I said.

I change my oil religously every 2000 miles seriously, and I change tranny fluid often too, about 5000 miles ago.

Can anyone help? Give advice????

First thing I would check is the clutch slave cylinder - those can be very sensitive to underhood temps when they start to fail.

Thanks acy76.

I did just change that about 5000 miles ago. Think the heat would kill the slave cylinder that quick? The turbo is Very near the slave cyl

It may just be heating it up to the point where it can't hold the pressure - can you shield it at all?

I'll give shielding it a try. I hope something simpe like this is the answer.

This is an extreme but I was also think about hooking up a pump to my oil return and sending the oil through an oil cooler before back to the pan to help keep underhood temps down.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

I will also switch back to Honda MTF tomorrow. GM stuff didn't help for **** anyway.

Thanks for the replies.

You gotta let the GM stuff work its magic... It took my fluid like a little over 500 miles to completely stop the grinding.... Now it shifts wonderful and I have no complaints, As for your tranny, maybe you could try a tranny temp gauge and see whats really going on. Maybe your tranny is just at the end of the road? How many miles is on it and how hard have you beat on it?

thanks for the response but I used GM Modified for a LONG while, don't like it, either my grind was too bad or it's not all that good. Most likely the grind is too bad.

any other ideas? I believe it is most likely the slave cyl getting too hot like said before.

There was also a recent thread discussing heat wrapping of manifolds and downpipes I was reading on here.. maybe you could try wrapping that all up?

Thanks for the replies. It is definitely the slave cyl, replaced today and everything works fine.

I created a small heatsheild for the slave cyl, hopefully this helps. I'm gonna make one also for the turbo soon.

Anyone have some ideas for reducing under hood temps? I know this has been discussed before so don't suggest washers for the hood or removing splash guards. I did like the idea of a duct that directs air directly towards the tubro but I don't know how much that will work. Any other ideas?

One other question, to anyone who went from standard thrust bearing turbo to ball bearing with water cooled center, did you notice the temps go down at all?

I thought about heat wrap but as others said, eventually the moisture is traps between the insulation and piping will cause it to rust and then crack. I am also tossing around the idea of thermal coating my turbo and mani.
