Default Headgasket Help!!!

Im sorry for asking stupid questions, but my friend is on his second hg install in just 3 months. he wanted me to ask if theres a certain way to put in a hg. he has a sleeved b16 with a 84 mm bore and turbo. he blew a cometic hg and now a ge. is he supposed to take off the dowels? or does he just take off the head and put the hg on exactly how he bought it from ge? he already got the block and head decked/milled. any input will be helpful. thanks

if you ahving sealing issues what you need to examine is the deck and head mating surfaces. There is only one way to put th gasket on correctly.

Also on the dowel pins did you shave them down according to how much you milled from the head and block.

What head fasteners is he using? What lube and what torque is he setting them at? Make sure the dowel pins are not too long. This happens often especially on milled heads and blocks. This can cause the head to sit up a bit and will cause the gasket to blow. Also, make sure everything is spotless, completely clean before install. I use copper srpay on all my gaskets as well.

You have to measure, or you can take a guesstimate Cut about .100: off the dowel. That will be sure to clear.

EEK! I didn't have my dowels modified and I just did a HG. The head only had 0.003" taken off...do you think it will be ok? [sorry to thread jack]

Some times if the block or head was deck a bunch, the dowels will sit up. I run into this problem customers a few times a year. .003" should be o.k., but anything more should be checked Yes, we sell OEM overbored gaskets, almost any bore size you need.
