header wrap...
I know there are a few threads with this in it, but not exactly what I was looking for. I'm getting ready to wrap my manifold and downpipe, and I might do my cold charge pipe...
I wanna see some pictures so I'll know kinda what it's supposed to look like...TIA!

You are meant to over wrap the previous piece by about a third of its width for a decent result, I over wrapped mine by 50 % and am happy, get some hose clamps for your mani.

Wrap it snug and pull it time every pass you make. If you have to make a weird bend, you can put a fold in the wrap so that it makes the tighter radius of the bend go smoother.
Use a zip tie to temporarily secure the finishing end if you can't get a hose clamp in there easily enough while at the same time keeping tension on end of the wrap.

to those who have done this. im not exactly sure how much it reduces underhood temps, but is it enough to make a noticable difference in power (im refering to your butt dyno
)as the result of the engine bay being cooler?

Meh not really noticable on the butt dyno in my case, it definitely was worth doing however for the practical reason of being able to touch the mani when its hot without leaving your skin behind on it..
its a fiberglass fabric wrap, thats why it itches.
i use aluminum ire to tie it down easier to cut off than unscrew a clamp. also if your wrap has a sticky side, you bought the wrong one. what you bough is heat shield wrap, to keep out heat. (shiny silver on one side.)
you want the ones like the ones pictured, dull tan on both sides, NO glue
BTW it will smell and smoke a bit on the first start up

is this harmful to do to the manifold seeing as how it contains heat? i've read that the N/A guys won't do it to their headers unless they're cast iron like the JDM ITR one or else it'll crack.....anyone experience cracking manifolds as a result?
Also, not mentioned yet...
Usually you get this stuff damp before putting it on, then once your all done, when it dries it pulls itself tighter and seals up nicely..
Made a huge heat difference when I put it on, my hood used to be hot to the touch before it, then after i could put my hand on the manifold after hard driving.
I plan on wraping my new manifold ASAP...

ive heard the same. any input from those who have had it on for a long time?
