head question need some help from you D16 junkys.
i want to get a vtec head for my D16 non-vtec,but how do i tell its really a vtec head?VIN #?
What is the up with a Y5 head? i read that the ports are bigger, is this a vtec head?
also will i be alright running 5-8psi on a stock bottom?
and before i go will a vtec head be better than a non-vtec head for boost?

And, among most obvious things, the LMA's. The 4 round discs on top of the cylinder head with the valve cover off.

Don't bother with v tec on a mild build like you are talking about keep it non v tec easier to deal with. just my opinion

Why not? If anything, it will wake up a mild setup even more. It's not anymore complicated than a non-vtec head is, and it flows better.

no additional tuning for the v tec section of the map,no need to convert the block to get v tec to work ie sourcing the stuff to build a mini me and most importantly non v tec is just cooler but then again I run a boosted D16a6 so I might be biased

It's really not that much work lol, all you have to do is remove an oil jet. To each his own.

Have you even looked at what's needed to use a vtec head? Ever take a stab at tuning? Tuning a 2nd map is about as hard as putting on a 2nd sock - you DO wear two socks, right? I hope you're not that one-shoe-wonder everyone talks about...
There are 4 types of SOHC vtec heads:
obd1/D16Z6 heads: considered as excellent, distinguished by no CC quench pads and the stamped 'moonie' style cam gear
obd2/D16Y8 heads: claimed to flow less, have square CC with quench pads, have the 5-spoke cam gear
VTEC-E heads: not for performance, run ONE valve until 2500rpm or so, then switches to 2 low-lift lobes/valves (obd1 and obd2 variants)
3-stage vtec: obd2 JDM, have 2 vtec solenoids, work like vtec-e and performance heads in one
Z6 and Y8 heads are by FAR the most common. I think it was something like under 2% of all Civics made were VTEC-E equiped. With a large cam, a vtec's idle will be better, overall more fuel efficient, spool a bit better, and can make more power. I don't claim the non-vtec A6 head won't make power, but the vtec heads have more benifits.
