Yes there is more involved than just R&R the gasket, IF you have time and money go ahead and have your local machine shop check the head for warpage, also a pressure test for your own peace of mind, depending on your setup I would take the oppurtunity to go aftermarket with the headgasket, List your setup

Contact 2K_TEG and pick up a Cometic MLS head gasket. You can get any thickness you want as well. Good quality from cometic, good service from 2K_TEG

... considering a new head gasket... got a couple more questions...

... first, i was wondering what compression ratio i should aim for?... stock?... 9.5?... 9.0?

... what thickness gasket would i need for each?

... also, how much boost would i be able to run with each?

... lemme know... thanks...

if you didnt overheat ... and you shut down quick... good poss that the head is fine .. but if you are taking it off any prob be about $150 for a full check over everything and like a slight resurface if there is any warpage

that will just raise compression a tad depending on how much is taken off ...

now is the perfect time to get the head intake manifold and throttle body .. all ported and polished since you have to take it apart anyway ...

or a CAM upgrade

EDIT: def a good idea to drain the coolant ... and oil... they could have mixed when the gasket blew
