Default Head Bolts

Well ive been trying to take out my head bolts but no dice, i have broken two sockets trying. I have even tried an air impact. Are there any tricks you guys do or anything? What is the exact size of the head bolts 14mm?

yes they are 14mm, i would say if you cant get em off with the impact thats a problem. Is it a 1/2" impact? with a big compressor?

yeah its a 1/2 drive, compressor is not that big at all but usually has no problems getting lugnuts off and other things, so when i brought out my breaker bar (defense lacrosse stick) and broke 2 sockets i was very surprised.

Are they ARP studs? if so i think it is a standard size socket. I can't remember the size off hand. Maybe it is a 13. Damn, i can't remember.Sorry, i tried. It should only be at like 75 ft lbs.

Sounds like someone may have loctite'd the bolts in their. That is not good. Try banging the top of the bolt with a hammer to try to shock it and free it up.

dont bang on it the bolts are going into aluminum and you dont want to risk anything

what i did was i got a 3/4 drive impact gun and put a 3/4 to 1/2 adaptor and alot of air pressure and they come right out

Id use an impact socket and a breaker bar (2 foot)

or try using an impact gun again, but alternating between foward and reverse in short bursts.

good luck
