Has anyone boosted an HX????
FWIW way back in '97 or '98 when the Greddy SOHC turbo kit's 1st came out we put one on a '97 HX 5-speed. It seemed to like turbo, he ran around 10psi non-intercooled(yes stupid, but we honestly didn't know any better) and never lost to anything on the street. Beat the **** out of it daily, and it ran perfect. He traded the car in soon thereafter. Never ran it at the track from what I can remember.
I don't think it's a waste at all if you want to throw a turbo on one.

Kind of my thoughts as well. The D16Y5 is just a more efficient version of the Y8, at the expense of only like 2 hp. I honestly don't know anything about the new, (IMO horribly ugly) Civics, but I think their engines are based on the same concept as the Y5. Again, that part I'm unsure of.

EX = 127hp
HX = 115hp
Y5 and Y8 head/valetrain are nothing alike.

user bretx0r had an hx turbo setup junkyard style and made 167whp and 168tq (those number are very close can't remeber exactly, but it was in the high 160's.
he had an VX mani with an adapter plate FMU and a fuel pump with a starion IC and that neted him a 13.8 in the quater

Close enough my friend, close enough
I think the idea was an engine that got better gas milage with reduced emissions (what I meant by more efficient). Either way it still beats out the Y7!
I would think the engine management would be pretty much the same as for the Y7 and Y8, with the exception of extra emission junk.

Y5 cam is different than the y8. hals the valves operates under -+2800rpm for fuel efficiecy, after 2800rpm all valves operates and vtech kicks in, its almost the same as teh y8 you can also feel a bit slow due to its longer gears whixh could be a good thing to soem dregree. In my defunted Y5 motor i used to do 120mph @ 4500rpm with the greddy kit & blue box at 5psi. Soem peopel liek very short gears, iliked the hx's better cuz i coudl stay boosting on each gear longer thus less time loss shifting.
An apperently good tunner blew my y5 engine while he tryed tuning, it was very irresponsible the way he tunned (no O2 feedback despite i had a WB). Now i have a Built Z6 which still needs tuning..
i miss my Y5 and th e$ i spent on the new build. Keep that motor and run it man it will be ok, no matter what motor u use there will allways be someone with a faster more powerfull car. Enjoy what you have

There is no "VTEC", at least not in the traditional sense. The 4 secondary intake valves opening when locked witht he 4 primary after 2800rpm IS the so-called VTEC action, there is no fat-lobe on a Y5 camshaft.
