Default 97 Honda Civic HX Turbo??

OK, i want to throw a turbo kit on a 97 Honda HX? Is this possible with no motor mods? I only want to run a little boost ex. 7-8psi. It has the VTEC-E motor... Would I need to purchase a new ECU?

Thx

a quicker answer to your question is YES. you should sell your rims to someone here on H-T though and you can get some money for your turbo

I had a turbo HX for a few months then sold it because I just had no luck with mods and cars. If it wasnt my daily driver, I would have kept at it. But right now I NEED my car on the road. I will tackle a turbo HX again though. Anyway here is what I did and mine was a 00.

Greddy 92-95 kit
Greddy IC
DSM 450's
AFC hack

I didnt change anything motor wise or ecu wise. I tossed around the idea of getting a D15Z1 ECU and using one of those free management systems (uberdata, etc) but i never got there and I thought I read somwhere that even though the Z1 ECU is OBDI, there was something else in it that prevented the use of Hondata, uberdata, etrc. Again I dont know for a fact, but I recall reading that somewhere. I will search and see if I can find it.

Anyway I didnt run across any problems (other than overlooking simple details) that proved to be hassles when installing the kit. Everything bolted up just fine. If yo uhave any questions, feel free to post back or IM or AIM me.

I dont see why it wouldnt work. No you can basically just throw on a turbo kit and be good. That is if you buy a good turbo setup though. A good one that I've seen are Drag and Revhard turbo kits. They work great. If you piece your own, dont skip the fuel items such as injectors, upgraded fuel pump, fmu and maybe an afc. You will not need to chip your ecu to run 7lbs of boost.

def do the turbo- just run a rising rate fmu and colder plugs on like 7ish psi. as long as your motor is heathy, you will be fine. the hx will make good torque too, due to its long (relatively) stroke and pretty much regular 16v head(when in vtec).

an upgraded clutch and an ex tranny will be your friend if you do decide to turbo

If you get a kit on ebay..try not to get the obx wannabe manifolds...the ones made by SSautochrome...Cause they tend to crack. At 7lbs, you might be safe, but if you do decide to go hmm..maybe 1 bar...it just might crack. Plus those one tend to turn yellow...so the polished finish doesnt really last.

I already answered that question.

I used a 92-95 kit that was "made" for the D16Z6. So yes ANY D Series manifold will work.

ANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNND BEGIN..................

Do a search on SSAutochrome turbo manifolds and then overall perspective will be not to buy one. For 168.33 (product and shipping) you should be able to find a used Greddy or Apexi manifold. I have heard of peopel having success with those manifolds....HOWEVER most of them braced them. While it might not be a bad idea...having to put extra money and time into a product when you can get something more effective at around the same price is kinda dumb. If you DO decide to bid, search on here and homemadeturbo.com for peole who braced it and had success. I personally wouldnt buy it though

one of my friends knows a few people that have all had success with ssautochrome manifolds. From what i've heard as long as you brace the turbo from the block then it should be ok.

look for a manifold from a kit that is a/c compatable...ie find a used drag mani that is from a kit that was a/c compatable. there are also some places/people that will make you a manifold that is a/c compatable. i know that projectdc2 on here at least did make manifolds when i was lookin for one earlier in the year. also check out homemadeturbo.com in the classified section- always some good buys over there especially for diy d series stuff
