h2b turbo
I was h2b all motor for bout a year. Went turbo and now it tends to overheat slowly while driving for a while. Im suspecting the fan is not pulling enough air off the radiator. Was wondering if I can get some insight from you guys who have alot of turbo experience. The setup is a jdm h22 put together with arp headstuds. In a del sol with a skunk2 half size alum radiator and a blox 12 inch fan mounted as a puller. Not sure if it matters but running a mini ram turbo manifold. The intercooler does cover majority of the radiator. Its tuned but not a very good tune (tuner sux, but his fabrication skillz are excellent). Thermostat is new and does open at 192 degrees, the fan switch works and turns the fan on at approx 190 as well. I monitor it all through the hondata s300. I did block test the car and passed. Im assuming the fan is just not enough now that the engine bay is hotter now. Any suggestions or insight please?

I agree, anything in the 190s is fine for a turbo car. If your seeing constant or climbing 2xx then I would consider a full size rad if you can fit it to accommodate for the IC blocking, or maybe some sort of custom shroud/cooling plate for the fan surround.

sorry. Didnt clarify. So the temp raises to 212 throwing the cel on . And if i keep driving it will keep going up. Takes a while for the car to over heat.

It also would depend on how close the downpipe is to the radiator. If the downpipe is too close to the radiator it may (over a period of time) begin to heat the coolant. I would like to see if you can post a pic of the downpipe just so we can rule this out. If it is too close, try to heat wrap on the downpipe and hopefully this helps. Good luck

here is a pic of the current setup. Downpipe isnt that close to it. I do see how maybe the intercooler will block flow. Was debating on taking off the foglights as well when I upgrade to a bigger fan. I think the blox fan is rated at 900cfm. Im assuming i need something like a 1200cfm. the wastegate has a dump tube that dumps under the oil pan.

X2 on the heat wrap. That stuff helps a ton at keeping underhood temps down. What are you using for coolant, is it antifreeze? Have you tried straight water and an additive like Water Wetter or Purple Ice? I don't think my cooling system is exponentially better than yours or anything and I've never seen ECTs higher than the 190s during any kind of normal driving. I switched from coolant to distilled water + Water Wetter when I went boost.

I would get rid of the fan and go with SPAL 13" with shroud or FAL with built in shroud, fans does ALOT in an FI car
I would also take precautionary measure to wrap the manifold/DP and get a turbo blanket, do as much as you can man!
Turbo Hondas are cool and all but the heatsoak is so damn real

I'll even help with the SPAL 13" part number you need - 30102044. Also, make sure you switch to a 40amp fuse in your fuse box. This keeps the lights from dimming and changing idle characteristics. Yes, it draws that much power , and does fantastic, and worth the additional money. You may not even have to shroud.
Keep the fog lights. again, you want to focus all air to come in ONE spot in the front bumper.

Thanks for the response guys. So much appreciated. I am going to go ahead and order the spal fan. Thanks for the part number. That makes it so much easier. Hopefully that cures the overheating issue.

I put the spal fan you guys recommended. trimmed my upper hose a bit so gets a little less "kinky" ha! Looks like problem solved. Drove it in 100 degree weather yesterday and all good. wouldnt go over 206. And while at idle finally saw temps lower when tstat and fan turned on. Thanks Guys!!!
