Icon5 GSR Boosted / All motor

Not sure if i'm in right forum, so excuse me. But i'm picking up a full GSR with an LSD tranny straight from Japan, and just trying to figure out if going boosted with a GSR tranny is going to be a dumb thing to do since the gears are already short and if boosting it is going to be a waste of time with that tranny rather than going all motor. Budget is big and whatever way I go it'll get built fully. Not sure how to explain what i mean about boosting a short geared tranny but hope someone get's what I mean.

No, your transmission is not going to cause wheelspin, and what you're saying doesn't even remotely make sense.

The ITR/CTR transmissions do have the shortest gear ratios. (I'm assuming your transmission is a Type-R since it is equipped with an OEM LSD).

However, there are MANY other factors to wheel spin/traction than just the gear ratio of the transmission.

How much WHP are you planning on putting down? What kind of tires? What is the weight of the car? (these are the more important questions)

The GSR was also available with LSD, just not in America. He said GSR.

You should be fine with a GSR trans with LSD its a great trans to use with boost.

JDM GSR trans were equiped with a LSD but the gearing is the same.

x2 GSR's have longer gearing then most of the other transmissions, b16, ctr and ITR have the shortest. Im running a JDM ITR I Believe thats as shortest one made. Short gearing is good if you can maintain traction.....run some kind of traction control on your EMS, Traction bars, good tires, proper suspension ETC

B16 CTR and ITR are the same minus the differential bearing design. LS/B16 diffs wont work with GSR/ITR.

I've found my LS final drive with GSR gearset to be great for high power street car. But anything less than 400-450 should be fine with a straight GSR and the right tires.

Sure they will if using the 4.4 final ring gear you can use a b16/ls diff with a gsr or older type r countershaft.

Gsr trans is best for all around performance. We've gone 157mph in 4th gear with stock trans. They work well on the street too. I daily drove my gsr DC for years. Boost management will help with traction.

Yeah, you have to keep the ring gear and counter shaft matched. What I meant was you cant drop in a GSR/ITR diff in an LS/B16 trans or vise versa.

A lot of truth in this thread. GSR trans is definitely the best all around trans. I may have to go that route as well I think I may top out before the 1/4 with my B16 trans.

Well remember that you can play around with tire size to change the overall gearing a bit.

Engine management is all you need. If you can control power properly you won't have issues regardless of which trans you use but short gearing won't allow a lot of power on the street. Gsr again best all around trans. I had gsr with ls 5th and 4.26 final was able to put down 400-450 in higher gears.

If my infinity comes back and we have time To tune and make some Test hits we will be at ennis. The car is done wired and ready. Previous harness might have damaged the ecu. Not sure yet. Be nice to get the car back into the mid 9's first time out with the new setup and work toward those 8's
