Greddy turbo kit prelude...dyno inside!! (56k beware)
So since I can't find a prelude dyno with the greddy kit, I decided to get mine done. My car is a 1999 Prelude base with Greddy turbo kit, type 31 intercooler, type s bov, AEM pulleys and DC Sports catback exhaust, everything else stock. So I'm pretty disappointed with the numbers, max power of 210.6hp @7400 and 180.1tq@3250. This was done on a Mustang dyno. I think it's kinda low...opinions?

You're running GReddy's fuel solution too right?? That's not terribly bad if so.. Hondata will do miracles for your car

Actually that is pretty good for 7psi on a mustang dyno, they read the WHP lower than a dynojet.
You car actually made something like 241whp.
Because usually you can add 15% to you 210 and it make 241. for the lose on the mustang dyno.

mustang dynos are about 10-15% lower.
what turbo is that on???

Re: Greddy turbo kit prelude...dyno inside!! (Burke)
So what causes the difference between hp readings from a mustang dyno and a dynojet?
I'm running a 2.25" inch diameter exhaust pipe. This is using the greddy piggyback system for the fuel...running very rich, between 10.8 to 11.5. The turbo is a TD05/TD06H 18G.
Didn't know that there is a 15% difference.. I'm satisfied with 241whp

that piping is way too small. you need atleast a 2.5 or even a 3 in exhaust. you would see significant gains in your hp!
a mustang dyno uses electrical resistance in the rollers. notice how they were awfully small. you can spin them with your fingers if you want. a dyno jet uses large water (i think) filled drums for your resistance.
Mustang dyno's are more accurate and very repetable as compared to the dynojets. this was told to me by a the owner of speednation.com who has a mustang 4 dyno. he wrote a couple honda tuning books and dynajet was gonna give him a dyno. but he turned them down and bought a mustang because he says they are much better. mustang dyno's are pretty cool, they can do quarter miles runs and all sorts of ****. he also found that mustang dyno's run about 8-10% lower than dynojet, not quite as high as 15%

dont agree on that mustang dynos have gave the same numbers as a dynojet i think its all on using using the dyno.

Get rid of that exhaust and get a nice 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust, as well as a 3 inch cat. Hit up Kteller8 here on honda-tech. I have one of his exhausts and also bought a cat off him. Let me tell you, it makes a world of a difference!

Re: Greddy turbo kit prelude...dyno inside!! (96b18c1vic(T))
change the downpipe and exhaust to at least 2.5 inches!
significant gains can be had!
I went from 177 whp with stock crush bent exhaust to 210 whp with a 2.5 dp inch/highflow/3 inch cat back exhaust.. 33 whp by just changing pipes!
That was 600 dollars for 33 whp!! big bang for the bucks!
then get on a dyno jet and do some pulls you're running really rich because you're car can't breathe. Id bet you'd lost a half point to 1.5 poiints to the lean side with the larger exhuast.
enjoy!

Re: Greddy turbo kit prelude...dyno inside!!
So should I go for a 3" or 2.5" downpipe? Would 3" downpipe even fit? My goal is about 350whp in the near future so I might as well start building things to support that kind of power. Does any company make a 3" catback exhaust system for the prelude?

Re: Greddy turbo kit prelude...dyno inside!! (dmah)
Don, I agree... with a turbo the less back pressure the better. You will see good gains with better flowing exhaust on your car! Ever think of a cut out?
Also in general a mustang dyno will give numbers lower then a DynoJet mostly due to the fact thats it uses a 2 roller system and the Dyno Jet uses one roller. Also you have to keep in mind that these numbers are not SAE corrected so in reality your numbers may be up or down.
Way to many people take numbers from a dyno the wrong way. IMHO dyno numbers mean very little in the real world. A dyno should be used for tuning. Do changes get back on the same dyno and see how much it helped. Also good to see A/F ratios.
You do have very good area under the curves so thats a good sign.
