Default greddy kit boosting question

Ok I just got my new Greddy kit for my D16 sohc. I'm gonna be putting it on this weekend. While i was at the shop getting a BOV, boost guage, and flange welded i also picked up a manual boost controller. After reading a few post it seems that if i was going to be using the stock greddy eman., i shouldn't be playin with the boost just yet. I know it come out of the box set at 5.5psi. I was told that it wouldn't hurt anything if i wanted to turn it up to 7-8psi. Well now i'm a little confused, should i put the manual boost controller on when i install the kit and turn it up, or should i wait for further fuel management before i go playing with the boost? FYI.. I'm not going to run a intercooler right off the bat.

Turning up the boost is fine if the emanage is tuned for higher boost. It its basemap is set at 5.5psi i wouldnt run any higher than that. You can put in the boost controller and leave the boost alone. Dont play with it until you are tuned for it.

Thats what i thought..So about the tuning, is that something i could do myself?? Computers are my thing and I noticed the blue box has a USB port on it, does that mean i could hook it up to my laptop and tune it myself?? I didn't get any software with it though....?

So what would happen if i hooked up the boost controller and turned the boost to 7psi??

^ more boost and untuned and you'll go KABOOM....j/k

You better get a expert tuner to do it.
A ecu map takes more than a computer geek to tune it. It takes years of trial and error and training to do it right.

well the blue box is un tunable, the E-manage is tunable but u need to buy the software which costs like 100 dollars. I say turn it up, i am running the blue box on my car at 7psi and it really only leans out in 4th-5th at high RPM's. plus everyone knows that the blue box/e-manage runs rich to start with so i'd say 6.5 to 7psi would be fine, greddy even says so. i have heard of people running up to 9psi on b-series motors for years on blue box and being ok. so a 1 psi or 2 wont hurt, and if your that worried get an O2 wideband sensor to see if your leaning out

if you are really interested in tuning your car yourself, get yourself a good wideband o2 sensor and read up on uberdata. its free and if you know what your doing then its awesome.

as far as turning up the boost, i wouldnt i'd wait for a good tune. its not made to run more boost, thats why the wastegate spring is set to 5.5
good luck

Ditch the emange, get hondata, or uberdata if you want good control of the motor. Then turn the boost up once it is properly tuned.

Isn't there a restrictor plate that limits boost to the stock setting and isn't to be removed until the installation of an intercooler? I know this is the case for the K20 GReddy kits, but what about for you B and D folk?

I guess I still don't understand why this system has been dissed upon constantly. I've used 5 different mangement systems and found that the e-manage was a blast to use. I use both on several turbo DD vehicles, and an 11.5:1 NA vehicle.

"Free" is such a loaded word when it comes to Uberdata. For pete's sake It would be so much more accurate to please tell the person about the other auxilliary parts that must be purchased when going this particular route.

I definetly think you should invest in an intercooler way before you tune and up the boost. Youll be drawing much more cooler air for higher boost.

Hey guys, the kit is perfect. I works great, no problems.. It took me longer than i thought, like 15hrs. I know thats a long time but not everything went as planed plus i hooked a few other things up but anyway, it pulls real hard..Boosting at 5.5psi is plenty for me for now. HAPPY WHOOSHING!!!!!!!
