Going turbo at 95k miles: Should I switch to synthetic?
My 94 B18C1 has around 95,000 miles on it. I'm using Castrol GTX 10-30 in it now. It doesn't smoke, use any oil, and my compression is good with all four cylinders at or around 215.
I'll be putting a TD05-18G on in about a month and I'm wondering if I should switch to synthetic or keep using dino oil. I realize that synthetic oil has a greater viscosity making it better for the turbo but I'm afraid it will be TOO slick for my 9 year old motor leading to blow-by and power loss from a bad ring seal.
What would you guys do?

I hear that synthetic might have extra detergents in it that might dissolve away
oil cakeup you had.. resulting in some oil passing your rings, etc...
I haven't heard any direct causes of turbo failure caused by cheaper oil...
I don't think that is your major concern. Worry about tuning. Just keep
it clean.
