Given Imports a Chance!!
Hello everyone.. I currently race a domestic car that runs in the mid 10's. And I'm wanting to build a turbo honda engine at this point... I'm going to be using this set-up for drag racing and light street use.. looking to go at least low 12's.. Would like to keep the cost low but don't want to blow the engine apart the first time out either.. So any combinations that anybody has in mind would be very helpful.. Thanks Joe..

Good combo that is fairly cheap is go ls/vtec. Ls/vtec is buying a b18a1 block which comes out of a ls integra. Slapin a vtec head which comes off of a gsr or type r integra and the engine code is b18c1.
You can pick up a b18a1 block pretty cheap. Then find a vtec head. After that get a gsr trans and your good to go.
Now moving on with the turbo setup. If you wanna do it right the first time build the bottom end up first. The ring lands tend to go first in these motors then the connecting rods. So I would highly sugguest to upgrade to forged pistons and forged connecting rods. Also a nice set of apr rod and head bolts would do very well.
Alright your average honda turbo setup consist of the following componets.
Turbo- garrett or turbonetics
Exhaust manifold- there are plenty of styles cant go wrong
larger injectors- hit up rc engineering
bigger fuel pump-holley or walbro
bov-greadyor tial sport
intercooler-mostly anyone that fits even an ebay one
intercooler piping- most of the time its custom
wastegate- tial sport 38mm
downpipe-custom depending if you want to retain ac and ps
dumptube-custom
various vac lines
3inch exhaust- thermal or custom
engine management like hondata or neptune.
couplers
chipped p-28 ecu with the correct conversion harness for the ecu, you need obd1
t-bolts - which are stronger worm gear clamps
Here are some brands to go by
gready
tial sport
garrett
inline pro
skunk 2
hondata
turbonetics
blox
exedy
innovate
crower
bisimoto
websites
http://www.skunk2.com/ good store.
http://www.tunerschoice.com/ has basicly everything
http://www.exospeed.com huge selection
http://www.speedinustry.biz/ the company that built my car, also has a huge online store
http://www.addictsracing.com/ my friends company also has a huge selection of parts
http://www.xenocron.com/ this is where you will find the conversion harness's and ecu's
http://www.tialsport.com/ this is the wastegate to the tial wastegate and bov
http://www.trackspeedracing.com/ has a huge online store
http://www.bisimoto.com/ very good place to buy cam gears and camshafts
http://www.crower.com/ also another good camshaft
http://www.bloxracing.com/ high end intakes and cams and shifters
This is a pretty good writeup to get you in the turbo import world. Hope this helps out alot.

Re: (jdel013)
id say just read around on here for a few months just for research sake before you make a decision. getting 12's out of it should be plenty easy. just remeber these are hondas and not v8's so there isnt alot of torque there (you will have a good amount when turboed though) weight reduction is your friend! light chassis+good power=fast. i personally would go with an ls trans instead of a gsr, gearing would be better suited for a turbo app.
you should just buy my complete gsr motor and turbo that

First off you need to find out what your goals and purposes for the car are going to be!!!
If you want a 10 sec honda now adays its actually pretty attainable
For a reliable set up I would
sleeve the block
forged pistons and rods
vavletrain
Intake manifold (victor Edelbrock)
1000cc injectors
fuel set up
twin disc or stage 5 clutch depending on how much power
Turbo manifold of your choice
and turbo of your choice that will support the power you want
ANd get a reliable tune from a reputable tuner
I recommend buying all your parts from two of the sponsors on here.... Mike @ synapse motorsports... and Joel @ speed theory both of them are really kick *** guys and will help you with anything and everything they can GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!

he says he wants a low 12 sec. car that is street-able
like said before, it's very attainable to reach your goal. Since you've been into to racing, you must be mechanically inclined. Use the red search link

look for build threads, look in the forced induction section, any past experience with turbos? not to complicated at all. A good book to buy is Maximun boost by Corky Bell.

What is your budget? At least a ball-park figure. Low 12's is very doable with a minimal budget, but just remember cheap and reliable are not always used in the same sentence. Don't forget about a decent suspension and slicks or drag radials. Power is useless if you can't get it to the ground.

I would like to keep the motor cost at or under 4k.. But I'm don't plan to rush the build so if a have to break budget a little then it will be possible.. And also I don't have any experience with turbos..

to get the same reliable power out of an all motor setup, I think, and my opinions are that of my own, you will go either way with cost, both being about the same, just spent in different places. BUT a turbo engine i think will be easier on parts.

if youre just looking for 12's with the least amount of money as possible then you would want a turbo d16. cant believe people even mentioned b-series. you can run 12's with a stock d16 and hardly nothing in the turbo setup. the d16 is more than likely already in the car already and youll also save yourself from having to do a swap.

All I can say is do ALOT of searching and read as much as possible. I learned everything i needed to know from H-T to get a decent build together.
What car did you drag race before you decided to try a honda?

Re: (slooogsr)
I race a 1970 chevelle. still currently race this car.. But I'm 19 years old.. live in a small town.. And there are several younger kids in and around my town that think they have a bad *** car and really they just have a stock honda civic and never really felt power before.. So I'll beat them at their own game.. So they can shut up!! Since I don't know how to insert a picture here. You can check out a picture of my car @ trackactionvideo.com.. (its the bottom picture on the home page!!)

Re: Given Imports a Chance!! (LstCivic)
There's lots of information here in this forum. You just have to read and read and see which info you think is just talk or its really been proven. There's alot to learn here with so many different setups, results, etc. Thats really the best way to go. Youre a racer as well so you know there will be parts that are just waste of money and parts that are worth the money. Lots of good sources and information in here. good luck!
