Gameboy Tuning

I nominate this for the ignorant comment of the month award (there are just too many to automatically make this one of the year)
Anyway, what you people need to understand is that the Gameboy is basically just serving as an interface for this system. Why should TurboXS spend a fortune developing the controls and a display when someting is already readily available.
I'm willing to bet if someone took the time to dissasemble the Game Boy and integrate it into the dash (which would not be all that difficul) everybody would think it was some bad *** thousand dollar equipment!
It's not like the Game Boy is replacing your ECU and running your car for hell's sake.

Do you seriously think TurboXS has nothing better to do than to lollygag around and post BS on their site?
Why is this such a hard thing for everybody to beleive?

Because it's a "gameboy"
If it's a "toy" it can't be serious right? Pepole need to understand that you're not tuning the system with a gameboy, but instead...you're controlling engine manegment software THROUGH the game boy...and you're not using it for games

this is true, the gameboy thing is and can be done.
at the moment a friend of mine and I are writing code to tune and monitor a new standalone.
the fact that its a gameboy, shouldnt mean that it is bad. its just the platform being used, or part of it, you can still run a laptop to it, its just easier to use a gameboy in the car, at times, then having your big laptop in your passenger seat. the fact that you can write programs and run them in the gameboy is why we chose to do it this way....
the interface is actually quite inclusive
rpm table, ign table, VE table, monitor screen, fuel settings, voltage corrections for fuel injectors, the list goes on..... dont knock it
i would post up the rom, but you need a emulator in order to see it.... i can post links to all of it if you guys want to see what it is

Well. I went out and bought an alienware area-51m 7700. Put Doom III on it.. hook it up to my car.. enable god mode and I can run into buildings, jump police cars, levitate etc.. this weekend I am flying to iraq to monitor the elections and will use my plasma cannons and rocket launcher to protect america..
I dont know what I find more amazing. The fact that 85% of the comments in this thread are complete BS and contribute towards nothing besides post count, or that people actually think gameboys are inferior to the technology in their ecu . . .

Nope. It don't. But on a serious side two things. The gameboy is a pretty good idea. All it is is a interface for the actual ECU. I first ran into these around WRXs.
Second.. as a laptop idea. I actually carry a high end laptop in my car. I have had tuner software installed on it to tune someone's ECU. Now, amongst other things on my laptop is a Verizon EV-DO card. For 80 bucks a month I get unlimited internet wireless access that can reach speeds like xDSL. What is really posible with this setup is to connect the PC to the ECU, crank up the engine tuning sotfware, connect to the internet, start Netmeeting or similar stuff and then let someone in .. say California tune my car while I am on a dyno (or on the road) in Atlanta in real-time. Helps info you're ECU setup supports integrated wideband O2 sensors. You can get pretty far out with something like this. Go to gamber-johnson and look at the various pro-type mounting setups for laptops and PDAs for cop-cars, fire-engines etc. It is literally possible to put several laptops on a local area network in your car. Say.. one runs cameras, one runs engine software etc...
Not that I do, but a high end laptop makes a better DVD player than a dedicated in car unit and with a USB surround sound unit from creative you can get a pretty neat sound system too.
And I run GPS software too with tracking and logging. Also use sat software from keyhole with the GPS.

c'mon, it's a "gameboy", how serious can it be?!?
Remember, your Honda ECUs are not any more powerful than a gameboy system, so your stock ECU is just as much a joke as a gameboy is. Using software through a gameboy to tune is'nt funny, but controlling rev limiters, boost, and 2-step launchs with you D16 fuel economy computer...now THAT's funny.

people forget that when a processor has has a dedicated function, you don't need a 10 billion ghz processor blah blah blah to support those functions. look at a calculator... it's a processor too... but all it does is compute and output numbers. the gameboy probably needs more processing power than an ecu because it has to deal with inputs from the buttons, display graphics, etc blah blah blah. i don't see why people see this as fake or something way out there.

The gameboy is only used as an IO device. The dedicated ECU in the car (not part of the gb) still does the work. The gb displays data and such. It does not manage the engine.
