Stock head will be just fine for that power goal revving to around 8500. I would upgrade the valve spring and retainers for anything over that. What is the ultimate power goal for this setup? What parts do you have already?

i'd say that the head is fine for the power level goal. obviously anything you do will make it so its easier to reach the goal.. the better the head flows, the bigger the valves, is going to make a difference on the amount of air/fuel getting into the cylinders on each combustion stroke.

if your limited on the budget i would say your fine with the stock typer head.. like mentioned if it were my project i would change out the springs retainers and valves. i personally run the supertechs and i like them, rev to 8700. the type r head flows better then any other vtec head stock.

hope this helps
