Free mods own!
Played around with the Turbo Pig this weekend. Found some info online about a couple of free mods, so Willard and I dove in. Good things happened
Free mod #1: Horn relocation. The stock horns are about five inches in diameter (2 of them), and live in front of the radiator/condenser/intercooler setup. Moved those down to the splash pan to increase airflow. Big difference visually - lots more air available to the cooling bits.
Free mod #2: Intake cleanup. There was a plastic cover/mount covering up the fresh air t00b on the intake, probably to prevent water inhalation in monsoons. Yanked that out for better breathing.
Free mod #3: More airflow work. Took out the middle lower grille insert. Better flow to radiator/condenser/intercooler. Looks mean, too
Free mod #4: Wastegate actuator adjustment. Volvo apparently thinks boost at low rpm/low gear is unsafe, so they restrict boost under a couple of different conditions to 1.5 psi. Now that's no fun. A few turns of the actuator = 0.5 bar by 3k rpm in first and second gears. Really brings the low-end to life! And had one unintended consequence:
That's the kind of peak boost I should be seeing after an ECU upgrade! Hmm...
Pat, who is off to order an exhaust now
