Default Found a really bad boost leak... yikes

ok so my cars performance has been getting worse and worse lately.. was building 10psi of boost a few weeks ago and up to a couple days ago wouldn't boost at all. So i hear this exhaust leak the other night while cruising around and look up front and the turbo manifold gasket has completely blown out and there about a 3mm gap between the turbo and manifold.

So I find my problem, and its an easy fix i think i will be not using a gasket because i hear they tend to blow out from the heat and pressure.

But I was wondering about some symptoms.. My BOV has never been very loud, and its a turbo RFL one. So could a boost leak cause that? Also when i would get on it, and when the car would hit Vtec it would start bogging (oil pressure was fine and I cleaned out the solenoid filter) could it be from running rich from the boost leak?

So thats pretty much it, just was wondering if a leak would cause the car to run rich enough to Bog down when it hits Vtec or it could just be a bad solenoid.

Thanks!

That's not a boost leak, it's an exhaust leak. And yes since you are turbo, it would cause your car's overall performance to drop.

well ya but correct me if im wrong.. the oxygen sensor is on the downpipe, so would the "exhaust" leak cause it to screw with the AF ratio.. causing it to run rich, causing it to bog? Or would the bogging be caused by a bad vtec solenoid? Car was supposedly tuned by the previous owner, he had it done.. I have only had the car about a month

Yes it would cause the car to bog and build boost slower because the exhaust is exiting before the turbo instead of entering the turbo and spooling it up.

Alrighty.. got it all back together. No leaks anymore = T4 boosting like a mother, spools faster, BOV is sounding tight, and most important no more bogging!! yay

awesom.... i was just goning to say that if you have an exhaust leak, it would effect your peformance b/c your 02 won't be reading all the exhuast gasses, only some.
