Default Firering?

I was wondering if I really need the "firering" in my tial wastegate? On my old setup I didn't have it and it still boosted just fine. So what's the purpose of it?

If your talking about the fire ring gasket, there junk. Just use high temp silicone. Most mating surfaces are machined so you'll be good.

so what is the reason for having this "firering"/valveseat? I want to know if it's worth buying it or not.

You don't need the gasket.

It doesn't look like a gasket it's a big round metal seal. I think your thinking of something else.

hes not talking about the gasket, hes talking about the little metal ring that goes inside!

not certian, but i would assume its so the valve gets a good seal, if not you would have exhaust gas leaking past it all the time. why its an extra peice instead of being part of the wg itself...i have no idea

Thats why I assumed he was talking about the "fire ring" gasket, his wastegate should already have a seat, unless he bought it used maybe.

just spend the $30 they cost..... it is there to make sure that you have a good seat on your wastegate valve. When you install it, it pushes the valve up alittle bit to make sure its sitting on a flat surface and to where it wont leak....... If they where junk I am sure that Tial would not supply them from the factory and they would not come with all of their wastegates

$30 bucks...I should take this 316ss scrap I have and make a couple.

The main deal with firerings is the preload on the spring. Too much and you get a small spike once it hits the desired boost level. Too little, and it will open a tiny bit and slow spoolup a little. Not even having it means there's usually a gap around the valve, which really affects spool/lag, as you're always leaking exhaust around the turbine.

Ok, I understand now. That is probably why on my last setup I wasn't hitting boost till 5000rpm on my little 50 trim.
