Default Finding the safe rev limmit

So after i'm done i'll have a new engine, with a aftermarket valvetrain and such. Which brings the question, what should i do with my rev limmit.

sooo.. i'm gonna asume i'll make power above the 7, 400 or whatever the rev limmiter is on a p28.. what should i do to safely set it.. using chrome btw
99 ek

golden eagle sleeved d16z6
supertech valvetrain, oversized valves, a very ported head.
Stock cam
acl race bearings,
polished/deburred crank
eagle rods
wesco pistons 8.5:1
balanced/blueprinted
stock ignition,

a whole bunch of that boost stuff... btw

do i get the basemap, do a base run, and find out where i make power to, and then step it down a little to be safe, ? as long as the a/f ratio can be balanced ?

if you hvae an aftermarket valvetrain, most likely, it will be able to handle whatever you throw at it. So like he said, whenever you stop making power - cut it off.

He recommends backing off a few hundred, I actually recommend adding a few hundred - just so your shift point can be better.

on a side question, i just didn't wanna spam a bunch of posts.. i was gonna shave a couple grams off the valve rockers.. anyone do this, and think i would need to worry about stress ?

Scary? How so?.......i'm talking 200-300.......there's nothing wrong with that. I'm doing that right now a matter of fact - because I have an 8lb flywheel, and the rpms drop faster. So that extra 200-300 shift point helps a lot.

i mean just on the dyno taking the valvetrain to the limmit... supertech valves, supertech rets/stpingsported head, flowbench very well, skunk2 intake, 70mm tb,

hmm, new gaskets, valveguides, stock cam.. maybe i should do a cam.. i just don't know if a cam out there has the same core metal composition.. shrug, i like oem for cams

nah - i think your valvetrain should definately be able to handle atleast 8500; however, your bottom end might not be able to handle it. Whatever power you're making, it should be fine valvetrain wise.

I think he's talking more along the lines of spinning a rod bearing or not getting enough oil to the lower end.

and the d-series pumps suck ***. hmm, you would try porting out the oil outlet and inlet, etc. if not you may want to look into a dry sump setup if oiling concerns you that much

I'm going to have to look into that.

I think it was Earl that had a thread about porting out something oil related on a d-series. I could have sworn it looked like bearings, but rob bearings don't have holes in them.
