Finally Boosted!! Problems/concerns
Yeah actually I am
BUT the problem wasn't what I thought. I was running the valve breather to the intake side of the turbine like I was told here in HT. BIG MISTAKE. Appearently It didn't work out for me. The smoke I was getting was the oil vapor from valve cover burning inside the turbine! I know this because I found it desconnected today ( hence why it stopped smoking). And when I connected it, it started smoking again. So now I'm just guiding vapor to ground and works fine (I know I should get a catch can because it's bad for environment). I guess I still needed a rebuild because of shaft play, but the wasn't even the problem, it was a cost free fix
Where do you guys guide the oil vapor from valve cover?
Thanks

hey pipes, my turbo kit is all custom, and when i first ran my car it blew white smoke 5 minutes after i started driving it home. when i say white smoke i mean the whole freeway was clouded with smoke for more than 100 yards behind me in other words it was really bad. i too rebuild the turbo however it kept on smoking. i then asked my turbo guy what else coiuld be the problem. he told me my oil line on the inlet (top) of the turbo was too large. he asked if i had a butter like liquid coming out of my downpipe, sure enough i did.
in other word check the size of your oil line. the turbo does not need huge amounts of oil going in
you may also want to check your return line, if it has a kink or is too small oil will back up in the line and create "blow by" inside of the turbo, which is when oil squeezes by the bushing into the hot exhaust=white smoke.
it is probably a simple problem keep your head up!

Yeah I also had a **** load of smoke before. Im gonna make a catchcan pretty quick here though. I was wondering though, is a little smoke at high RPMs normalÉ Thanks.

well imo many turbo hondas seem to smoke just a litttle, when i say a little i mean a small haze! continuos smoke could be a tuning issue also (too rich)!
yo son did you check that oil line yet, i still want to know if you figured it out yet, "pipes" man your making me loose sleep
! let us know whats up with it...

I see.... well It's a little white cloud just during shifts so I'm not too too worried.
Yo sorry man I didn't think you were waiting for an answer
Yeah so I have the teflon stainless steel braided that I got from a hose supplier. I'm pretty sure it's the same one that comes in most oil line kits. They only had one size, which I don't remember off hand, it's really small though, I think it's around 1/4" OD. For the drain, I have a (approx.) a 3/4 ID silicon tube, no kinks.
I'm just having problems figuring out where to hook up my catch can lines! It seems no one here agrees on the same setup. I wonder how it's setup on factory turbocharged cars... Anyone know? I guess I can hook up one side to valve cover, one to intake side of turbo, like I had but this time with a catch can instead of straight valve cover to intake...

yo pipes, try a search on H-T for "oil catch cans" i found a few listings already! have you got the intercooler hooked up yet?
you said you are still getting a small puff between shifts
how does your oil look, is it hella burned, if it is fresh oil and it is dark brown within a short period of time it mad still be burning oil from some place. pipes, you should save a little cash and take it to a tuner. i blew up 2 turbo motors before i realized you ears a not good tools to tune with

the oil actually doesn't look too bad it's been a few weeks now.
Intercooler should be on soon, and tuning right after when I have time.
I guess i'll go with valve cover to catch can to atmosphere... I just need to make a catch can...

BTW for that big catch can debate going on here, I removed my PCV valve disabling the system, and the smoke between shifts has stopped. I have crankcase and valve cover to catch can to atmosphere, contemplating ifs I should send a line to intake for vacuum or not...
I got the info from here regarding catch cans (very confusing) But the guy (can't remember sorry) who said "figure out how the PCV system works, and you can build your own setup" is right. So I minimized all conflicts with my turbo kit and what was supposed to be a NA engine...
i was trying to start a new post but couldnt figure out how to sorry guys....helping a friend out on this when he drives his car in first gear and second gear when you floor it..it doesnt start boosting till 5k hits 8 psi at 55k then the wastegate starts blowing off like a ak-47 but doesnt do it in 3rd or 4th or 5th...also if you slowly give it gas up can run it to 7k no problem...ive been beating my head off the wall tryin to fix this im at a lost any info or suggestions will help thank you very much
