Finally Boosted!! Problems/concerns
Yep... after about a year of research and saving I decided to put in a home made turbo kit. I was very impressed with the power. It hasn't been on the dyno yet, but comparing to the fastest car I've drivin (Acura NSX) I think my 94 Integra now pulls like a motherf***er. Just a few concerns, that might help other installers also. I'm running 0.6 kg/mm^2 (according to my safc, which should equal about 9 psi?), non-intercooled on stock timing . My setup and problems/concerns are the following:
Stock B18b
Custom manifold
2G eclipse T25
1G eclipse BOV
DSM 450cc's
S-AFC
1) Oil leaking from oil drain flange
--> JB welded it, solved problem
2) Used rubber couplings for charge pipes, but pipes kept on flying off under boost
--> I had to actually tighten the s**t outta them.
3) Getting clouds of oil smoke once and awhile when I let off the gas at low RPM's
--> Unsolved: turbo needs rebuild??
4) What is that annoying whistle coming from BOV (I think) at low RPM's when in vacuum???
5) 9 PSI non-intercooled with stock timing and NO signs of detonation???
This sounds weird, but it pulls really hard and smooth. I'm running 91 octane, and my charge pipes hardly get warm. I'm going to install an intercooler soon but was wondering how critical it is.
6) How can I tell if my wastegate is opening. I think 9 psi for a stock t25 was a little high, but maybe it's right.
Sorry for all questions! Besides all the problems and frustration I went through, the power and potential gained for the amount of money spent (about 1300-1500) was amazing! Can't wait to get intercooled and tuned!

sounds good...how does it pull up top? does it feel like its dying at higher rpm's?? I am planning on running the same setup too...with about 11psi... do you have an internal or external wastegate?? what do u think the car is running in the 1/4 mile??
It pulls hard till redline, on internal wastegate.
I think I'm probably at least around mid to high 13's in quarter mile.
What sux is my car is now blowing alot of white smoke. I heard bad things about white smoke, but I know my turbo really needs a rebuild. I hope it's not anything serious....

use heavy duty clamps the ones you need to use a rachet for. pricey but well worth the cause.
as for the whistling its always going to do that cause your running it off of vaccum so when your in idle the vaccum is going to open that valve...

i have the same setup on my teg except i am intercooled. My problem is when i am in 4th or 5th and it hits full boost (10psi) the CEL comes on and starts throwing fuel in my car and it runs like ***.
if you are talking to me i have know idea how you got a 13.8 . I ran a 14.5@97 at 5500ft. elevation. Good for probably low 14's to high 13's close to sea level. Planning to upgrade to a 20g this summer.
yup, i was talking to u...since u said u shaved 2.2 seconds off your quarter mile time, i assumed u ran a 16.0 stock...thats how i arrived at a 13.8..
ahh, i see now...my friends ls with exhaust ran a 15.87 on 17 inch rims and falkens full interior, still dont know how he did it..everything else was stock... I ran 16.1 all stock on stock 14 inch rims
News:
I am about to abandon my boosted honda It's frustrating the sh*t outta me.
I rebuilt the turbo and I still get white smoke. The weird thing is I don't see any cooling mixing with oil. Could the turbo be leaking coolant? How cool I blow a headgasket after 1 week with only 9 psi. Please help me, I am about to exit the scene like right now. I have had nothing but problems, and it's only been a week. Thank you.

sorry I forgot to mention: I found lot of oil in downpipe befor turbo rebuild.
Also, my car starts and runs just like before, no overheating or anything. Would I still have a blown headgasket? I will try the leak down test though.

run it for awhile. maybe it's just burning all the leftover oil/fluids that was left over since the last rebuild. all the turbo honda's i've seen always blow out some type of whitish smoke after letting off the throttle after boost. i get it too but i'm not losing oil nor coolent so i'm not worried. however i am gonna retorque my head because i haven't done so yet after my rebuild and it's been about a good 3k miles now and i've had the turbo on for half of those miles. after going turbo....i never want to go back to all motor. if i do, i'm never gonna race again.
Thanks for info, but I ran it and drove it already for awhile with no luck. This time though, I'm getting smoke from engine bay too?!? WTF ?!? It's coming from around the turbocharger.
if you are getting smoke from around the turbo it is oil burning off the turbo. either left over from rebuild or leaking out the seals or feed line. what size line are you using for feed? is your return restricted? does it go straight to the pan without going down and then back up? if you aren't losing coolant and your oil doesn't look milky you probably are backing up oil/leaking oil at the turbo somewhere.
Thanks for info. I'm using, approximated, 1/4 (OD) feed with 3/4 drain. I think it's draining properly... It's in a J shape. I'll check coolant and oil again though. Thanks.
Thanks to all who responded, I found the problem: There was no problem!!! After driving it for about 10-15 min, the smoke dissapeared! It was nothing but leftover oil in exhaust. The car runs awesome now. Boost comes on super quick since rebuild. Thanks again.
