Default Finally blew the motor :(

Well, I heard a big *** boom under my hood down the track Friday night, but I still drove the bitch home anyway. It was barely able to keep a idle and it had no get up at all. I get up this morning and check the plugs and I always like to go backwards cause usually #3 or #4 go bad. #4 fine, #3 fine, #2 fine, #1 The entire porcelin has decintegrated and the plug is like ripped in half. I replaced the plugs and tried to start the car again and it still runs like poo poo. Terrible idle. I'm pretty sure I chipped at least 1 valve, maybe more. My friend is coming with his compression tester tomorrow, so we'll see how the compression is across the board. Now, some of you may think "He didn't blow the motor" Well, it depends what you consider blowing the motor is. My idea is chipping or bending valves, holes in the block, etc... The worst part is I prepaid for an Autocross session tomorrow and I now I can't go.
Oh yeah, it ran 13.8 @ 100 with 3 cylinders after 2nd gear

possible scenario..

bad valve seats...
bend valves
scratched up cylinder walls...

and if your lucky...it spread to other cylinders..and stratched the hell out of them too...

and if your the winner of the contest, your reward is...: metal all in the oil system and your looking at total motor rebuild.

How did that happen? Did you mis shift and go past like 9500 RPM?

Nope, I've never misshifted or taken it past 8400 while on the bottle. John, I'll let you know when I'm ready for tuning. 230 whp, when I'm done rebuilding, it'll over over 250, guaranteed!!!!!!!!!!!

umm... high compression plus 100 shot NAAAWWWWWS... did you check your welds to see if they are blown? And were you granny shifting, instead of double clutching?

well, in my experience, 100 is too much for a little honda engine. Most I've seen people safely use is 75, but most dont venture past 50... you're lucky the engine lasted so long. Did you have a death wish for it or what, man?! poo poo, FOCKER! You killed a B18C5!!! What were you thinking?!?!?!

csufweed, damn dood. Chill. WHich is worse, 7 PSI of turbo boost or a 100 shot? They both offer the same HP gains. WHy would one be harder on the engine than the other. You hear about all kinds of stock engine turbo kits UNTUNED running 7 PSI all over the place.

Give props where props is due. He held it together for 8 months and 26k miles. Congrats to the R owner!!!

Now go screw Acura out of a new B18c5

hey i was just mad cuz someone who is fortunate enough to get an ITR blew it up. nitrous isn't really as bad as people make it to be. its not nitrous that blows up an engine, its the user. same would go for an untuned turbo or any mod!

i would NEVER use NAWWWWWSSSS on an stock B18C5. Thats just plain old carelessness. (or a death wish) Honda engines ARE STRONG, (as he has proven from the abuse it was put through) but not with so much abuse. Dude, did you even tune the nitrous or just slap it on and go? Nitrous needs tuning too, believe it or not.

Sorry bout your loss... but you can't honestly say you were surprised. It was bound to go someday. Good Luck with trying to screw honda out of another engine.

65k on a 99 stock internal b16a2 and shots ran from 50-90 with no problem or detonation,,

marc car could have lasted a long time but he needed to tune it some more and change out his plugs more often

i just think he might have chipped and bent some valves, from how his car is running that is what it seems like

marc stop driving around your car so much and take a look at it

My mechanics Prelude VTEC motor..

He did a 120 Shot direct port on stock motor, for over a year...

never a problem....its all in the fuel delivery.. you go lean with that kind of shot, you blow up immediately.

The ITR does have higher compression than all the other cars mentioned...

and an H22 is in a different class than a B18C5. Those prelude motors can handle A LOT of punishment!

I'm glad you had all the proper parts for nitrous, but obviously something went wrong with the tuning or you over did it with the nitrous or the engine just couldnt handle it!

The engine lasted so long cuz he did tune it. But maybe all the tuning in the world can't save a stock high compression engine from a 70 shot of nitrous and the punishment of daily driving.

Oh well... poo poo HAPPENS!

My best guess is since I'm running a single fogger, all the Nitrous got delivered to Cylinder 1 and wabamm, bye bye - I have a massive compression of 115 psi in Cylinder #1, but the good part is 2, 3, and 4 are all 235. I'm thinking a cracked ring, but I won't know until the head is off. I'll probably rebuild though. The car went though probably 8-10 bottles

loosing compression on your motor sucks! My old motor had consistent 145-140psi per cylinder.. no variation.. all of them lost around 60psi! Now I have a freshly built motor.. still workin on some kinks. Good luck on building a new motor!
