Default Filing a lawsuit with Autometer.......

Well Not really, but i just want to vent about the problems ive had in the past 2 weeks. Last wednesday, I was a Englishtown shakin down my civic, and on my second run, right before my burnout, i look down at my Oil Pressure guage and its sitting on 0!!!, after changing my shorts, i shut the car off and tow it back to the pits. After further inspecting everthing, i realize my sender took a ****, wheww
Then a few days ago, i went on the highway to check a few things before i hit the dyno, and i look down at my boost guage, and its climbing towards 20psi!. Now im not a stupid man, but i have a 8psi wastegate spring and i never heard of a 12psi creep unless somethings broken hardcore. After buying new vacuum lines, changing the source, changing the spring, taking the wastegate apart twice and inspecting it, it ends up being my stupid *** Autometer boost guage. Every car has problems, but these dumb guages probably took 3 years off my life and lots of hair off my head, lol. I can see a faulty guage every now and then, but 2 in 2 week, i dont think so, these products are hurting. Dont buy them folks!

Hummmm, I have never had a problem with mine. Maybe you had a bad batch of them??? I always thought they were good reliable guages.

so what you're saying is, you can't tell the difference between 8 psi and 20 psi on a T61?!?I would think the car would feel a little different, don't you?

But there is no reason you should even need to know the difference between 8 and 20 psi. Thats what the gauge is for.

Yep, i didnt feel much of a difference, but its very decieving when youve tried many things and they didnt work, i wouldnt have thought it was the guage. And put your hammer away.

hypothetically speaking, just because your car over boost to 20 psi that doesn't necessarily mean it will feel fast. if your efi isnt tuned to go that high, how the motor will react is really anyones guess.

if your gauge started suddenly reading high, you'd better start taking things apart to see whats going on. instead of just figuring the boost gauge is bad, and ******* your car like you normally would just because the car "feels" the same.

T61 + 8 psi = @ 350 hp.

T61 + 20 psi = @ 500 hp.

T61 + 20 psi untuned = snap crackle pop.

Guy without any knowledge + T61 = Guy who buys new vacuum lines, changes the source, changes the spring, takes the wastegate apart twice and inspects it, and it ends up being his stupid *** Autometer boost guage because he can't tell the difference.

yep, well im a guy whos constantly everyday learning new things. sorry we are not all full time professial darg racing mechanics brotha. And a stated above by Sei8flo: you may not nescssarily feel a huge difference with the boost that high f the fuel maps are set a certain way, since the DFI was tuned on smalled injectors, the car was running rich, and since i had just put race gas in the car, it felt faster then before, so i had some doubts. And the boost would climb with RPM's, usually determining a leak or poor manifold design, Dont criicize unless you know all the facts man. Why are you comming on here talking all types of ****? im stating a problem i had an trying to give others a heads up incase that happens to them, please dont ruin this post, relax man

I never said I was a full time professional "darg" racing mechanic. I was just stating what seemed to be obvious to me, not talking ****. It just seems like your setup just might be a little over your head. Not trying to criticize, just trying to help. I've heard good things about the defi.

haha... this coming from a guy who spells gauge as "guage".

atleast, "darg" is clearly a typo. whereas, you just can't spell.

Still on an untuned 8psi and pump gas, My first run ever was 12.12@118, which by my standards is ***. I had a shitty 1.86 60ft to. And yes boostsofast, this setup is a little extreme, being that its my first turbo setup, but if your going to do something, mind as well do it right, ya know. Everything i do, everyday, is a learning experience, and i think im doing well. oh wells

That was a modified copy and paste, I didn't type it. Way to be on top of that though.

Want to see something real funny. Take your Automete boost gauge and thump it a little.

had mine sitting in the seat in the box, when it fell all of 4 inches to the floor. Ever since it was stuck on 12psi. thump it a littel and I can basicly set it to what ever I want. Needless to say its still in the box and I got a Greddy

man, my autometer boost gauge took a dump just over a year after i bought it.. it seems like the autometer gauges are warrented for 12 months from the date of purchase.. ironically, the dam gauge decided to go bezzerk on like the 13th month .. arrrgh...

it used to work fine, but one day the dam thing just sat at 4 psi w/o boost or vac.. I was like whe the FAUK?? and so i emailed autometer about the problem and the suggested that i send it in to get recalibrated.. Wth the curisoity that I possess, i analized the gauge and noticed that it was only kept together by that aluminum ring on the front of the gauge.. So i carefully pryed around the ring so it would seperate and got to the internals of the gauge... turns out that curled copper element just needed to be squeezed in a bit to adjust the needle to sit back to 0.. so I did just that and , wahlahh, I just recalibrated the dam gauge... certainly saved me some down time, shipping, and labor costs.. though its not exactly on the 0, its close enough for me for the time being.. now if it does go out of wack again, i'll just re-adjust that thing inside the gauge to get it to read accurate again..

If i had to do it again, i'd probably stay away from autometer and get something better...

Not always, my vacuum/boost line came off my wastegate while driving down the freeway one day. I hit 15psi before i noticed the problem. Well actuall it was about 12psi but it was climbing so fast because the turbo was so small. car didn't feel much faster because i didn't have enough fuel to make use of the boost. I normally ran 6psi so going from 6psi to 15psi with not much change in power is possible.
