External wastegate on hf manifold??

Default External wastegate on hf manifold??

has any one tried an external tial wastegate on an hf manifold. like weld it on and customize ur own flange?? Would the manifold crack, has anyone tried it with success????

Ive seen it done a few times before over at HMT, but the way the did it was apparently not acceptable, brazing maybe?

I honestly just thought about doign thins sometime, just to try it. You would have to heat the manifold up to about where you would weld it at. It would probably end up cracking anyway. Only other way would somehow make a plate that sat flush on the manifold and tapped it. BUt still probably would crack. Decided just to make a custom manifold. Brazing is usually when you take a torch, not a welder and braze the two metals together, I think that is pretty much what it is. Usually uses a filler rod type thing, like tig welding.

Or you could run an external off a 5 bolt t3 flange or a DSM 14b or t25. Port the hole out to roughly the same size as the inlet of the WG and it should work OK without having to mess with the HF manifold.

cause i have a tial 35mm and im tired of this creepy internal so im going to try this. but the turbo is a saab t3 50 trim .42, .48

that the same turbo I run but with a .63 a/r housing. works fine with a ported internal for me...

anyway, since you have the .48 a/r housing (which would be like $20 to replace) you should try my idea. hog out the WG hole and weld an external gate flange to the 5 bolt flange bolt on external WG project - done.
