is exhaust wrap really worth it?
a mechanical engineer told me to get some aluminum tape and some fiberglass cloth and make your own. apparently both items are at walmart and are hella cheap...anyone confirm this?

u dont want to insulate a dp on a turbo car unless ur worried about nearby parts melting. if possible, the dp should be cooler than the manifold. the larger the difference in temps, the better the performance(spool). if u must wrap it, dip the wrap in water then wrap the pipe. and be warned that insulated exhaust pipes and manifolds usually wear/degrade faster.
oops the aluminum tape with fiberglass cloth was for general heat wrap to put on parts you dont want melting, not on the hot parts themselves. like to put on AC lines, oil return lines etc...anyone try it?
DEI article

a cheap alternative to DEI is available from a hardware store. its sort of like the aluminum tape and fiberglass....at least thats what i think it looks like. u can find huge sheets of it in the insulation section. i wrapped one of my radiator hoses and glued it underneath my hood. my turbo sat up top, near the valve cover on my car and i was worried about the heat melting the paint.the dp was next to my rad hose. this stuff really works.....the hood n hose never got hot at all
