it actually does make power... only at WOT, though and its not much more than what a proper intake or exhaust would make.

I wouldnt get it. being electrically powered, you do risk strain on your alternator and battery.

I hesitate to admit this, but I actually installed one of these as part of a research project to see if the electric powered assist would help reduce turbo lag. It produced NO power at ANY engine speed, full throttle or not. Do NOT waste your money.

Yep, you should not have admitted to it

We will all look down on you from now on!

why do you think people spend 3-4-5,000 dollars on a turbo kit? If this or any gimmick electric supercharger gadget worked as advertised.... Ben would be holding group buys on them instead of drag kits.....

So, no one should ever try anything new that might be more cost efficient? This thing is crap too. If you want something good, get one of those little fin/spirals you put in your intake.

Gas mileage ? Where'd you get that from buddy ? It does NOTHING for gas mileage !!! buuuut......

I put one in and gained 2.9 compression points. How's 46.8 wHp and 32.1 ft/lbs at the wheels sound for a $70 investment...... (installation was $116)

Not to mention.... on a D15, when I had one of these installed... it produced VTEC !

But seriously... yes, the idea of an electric 'supercharger' is not that far fetched... but the one's produced currently... just don't work.

There is ONE serious electric supercharger, its made by TurboDyne.
It's mostly for reducing lag time on big turbos. There was a major court battle with Honeywell (whom they where partnered with) over the rights for the thing, now that's over mabey we will see some very intresting things in the area of FI.

I am sure electric SOUPerchargers...hehe heh.... will prolly become modern day reality when someone decides to switch from 12v to a 24v or 36v system.... by then there should be enough power to push an electric compressor well enough to create considerable amounts of boost.

voltage does not equal power.

While that is true, he is right about using higher voltage motors.

Figure this -
A 1 HP DC motor (say that is what we need to spin the impellers) equals 746 Watts.
746 Watts at 12VDC = 62 Amps. Thats ******* insane load to have on your alternator all the time! (746/12=62.blah)
Now do the same for a 36VDC motor and you come to a more reasonable 20 Amps (which still techinicaly is ALOT of current).
Thats not even figuring in a DC motors STARTUP power draw, that same 12VDC motor when it first starts to spin could pull 75 Amps.

But, Voltage x Current = Power.

does this mean that it would put strain on your altinator and or battery?? even with using a toggle switch to have it activated when necessary? ??

no... i have had the e-RAM in my car for about 2 weeks now andit works great. There's no real drain and when it's off there's no drain.. it's instant power when you hit the switch... and it's dangerous to engague it without being WOT... you wont get enough fuel and you'll detonate...

so far so good...

i have whipped a S351 Saleen and 3 vipers with this setup (see sig)....

Yep. I work there as a design and applications engineer. And getting this Honeywell business finished off is going to clear the way for lots of interesting stuff in the near future. Email me at dmanning@turbodyne.com if you are curious.

Why the fawk do you think I'd be messing with something like a stupid E-Ram unless I had a serious interest in the concept?

I have to give some respect simply because your the moderator

...But your joaking right?!?!, A viper will pull 12.4 easy - was it parked?.

If your serious, I (and thousands of others) have wasted BIG $$$ just to get our cars into the low 13's - mid 12's ...

if this eRam device is a WOT(wide open throttle) item, then is there no power in the mid rpm's?? and how can the Elec s/charger cause deternation if not used during WOT due to lack of fuel ect, please explain in more detail if possible,
many thanks

If it's forcing air into the intake manifold and the car's not supplying enough fuel to go along with it your car will run lean. That's why turbo/supercharged cars have bigger injectors/fuel pumps.
