Default Engine Swap B16A/B18C

Hi

I have a Fiat Uno body that I will use to fit either a B16A or B18C motor in it, The nice thing is that the body with the engine will only weigh in at about 1980Lbs standard, without any weight reducing tricks...

Anyway, what I am looking for is to know which engine would be best/cheapes to turbo charge, I get both engines for the same price..

This is for a road car, that will race often, I only drive about 5 miles per day so it does not have to be super driveable ... I am more looking for low ET's than drivability, since I have a Ford Fiesta as a daily driving car.

Is a B16A high rpm better, or B18C I am not sure how high this car can go??

Thanks in advance!!

i would ditch the bseries, and get something with a flux capasitor, forget fuel, when all you need is a source of 1.21 jiggowatts

b18c would be best if you can get it for the same price.'

b16 would be better for high rpms because of the shorter stroke, and better r/s ratio.

Goodluck. I hope you have some cash. This will be tough. No turbo set-up is cheap tho, well at least not in my quality taste...

Thanks for the info ... what is the rpm limit on both the b16a and b18c? As far as I have researched cams that go over 10000rpm are basically non existant or very rare? Is this true? I have also heard that the B18C goes to 9500rpm? Is this true? What is the safe limit for a turbo charged motor?

Thanks for the replies so far!!

Cheers

Thanks for the reply again ... I see what you are saying, however here is my reasoning ....

I am still looking to see the rpm limits of these engines, however my reasoning is that even a B16a makes good enough power, the idea is to rev higher to have a longer 1st gear, maybe even a big bore 84mm or so for a bit of earlier spooling...

Parts seem to be cheap, darton sleeves 300$, rods 300$ pistons 400$?
Machining should be fairly inexpensive here (South Africa) since labour costs are not nearly what they are in the US.

Am I barking up the wrong tree here? While I am posting I am reading a large amount of material conserning turbo charged honda's ...

One more thing, any tried a tangential tubine housing on a SC61? having cylinders 1 and 4 into one half and 2 and 3 into another? I do think the turbo is quite large, however the tangential housing is not available in any smaller sizes ... I know on the B16a a SC61 boosts around 5000rpm, with the tangential housing it should be about 200rpm sooner or so ... maybe with some extrude honing another 200 or so can be had? Another trick or to can save another 500rpm or so ... this all could bring it down to 4000-4200rpm with a shot of nos, even sooner ... if it pulls clean to 11000rpm that is quite a wide powerband ... (6000-7000rpm's) on a b18c will one also get a large powerband? I can figure this out if I know the top end limit

Sorry for all the questions, I am not lazy, just finding it hard to get some decent info, I am going through all threads one by one and am trying not to repeat questions...

Cheers

oh man, my friend used to have a fiat uno in argentina with a stock motor in it (just a head swap) , and it ran high 11's @ 16 pounds, it was amasing because that car is so light that taking the spare tire out and some other things and gives you a 1900 lbs car

fiat uno = what a nice car
dont waste your money on these swaps dude, spend the same money in your engine, or the fiat tipo motor and you'll be happy with it

11k rpm ???? What do you think this is a crotch rocket?
Stock for a b16 is 8,250rpm....you would have to have custom cams ground to make power that high......lots of money to prep the engine for that kind of abuse

The standard Uno motor, is a 8 valve motor, 1.4L , performance parts are super expensive, and the block cracks when power exeeds 300bhp or so ... I am very interrested though on how your friend got into the 11's on that car, since here they run n20 and they only get down into the 12's... 1.6L 16V motors for these cars here are unavailable, and to import the motor and just get it in the car will cost $4500 ... this is without adding any mods ... just a plain standard motor... I can get a Vtec Engine and gearbox for $1200, this leaves alot of cash for performance mods.

11K rpm was just a number, lets drop that down to 9.5K? Still very wide power band to play with, I have heard some people do 11K on the B18C motor, so for a B16a this should be easy enough??

I am getting very interrested in the B18C, what kind of power does it make, does anyone know where I can find a nice readup on what to do on this motor and what to expect... I am still looking for a high rpm motor, 9.5K or so for reasons mentioned in the previous posts.

Thanks again for the help...

it all depends on what you put into it... you can make it as fast as you want - just depends on how much money you got. anyone can build a 10 second honda with 30 grand. but im pretty happy with little 13 second car with 5g's into it.

Sorry for my ignorance, howevver I fail to understand where the money goes 30K?

Darton sleeves $450 (Ebay)
Eagle Rods, Arias Pistons, Copper gasket set $839
ARP Stud set ?? (Cant be THAT expensive)
SS Turbo Manifold (Cheap to get it locally made +- $200)
Turbo $650
Inlet Turbo piping: I can make these myself...
Intercooler (Already have one)
Electric water pump (Already have one)
Fuel Pump $200
Fuel Filter $100
Fuel Line +-$70
Regulator $100
Injectors $400
Dry Sump system $1000
N20 Direct Port Kit $400
Engine Management System $850
LS Diff (Already have one)
Machining $500
Misc $500 (gaskets, bearings, etc)

Thats about 5-6K ... And should give more than enough power to get into 12's or even 11's, since the car is very light, should be no problem ...
Am I missing something?
