engine building
I've been thinking about it for awhile and want to build a good reliable motor to run 12's in a 1/4. I don't want to work on it constantly just to keep it there.
It will be going in a 93 civic coupe, and wanting to go bseries.
My questions are, what bseries should I use? and what do I need to upgrade on it.
also what turbo setup should I get? thinking about boosting 10 to 12 psi.
has anyone built this motor yet?? or is it possible? As soon as I sell one of my car I am going to build this. My price range is going to be around 3k is this even possible????
please give me some direction on what you all have done and what works, and I will continue searching on honda-tech.

ive seen a 96 sedan run high 12s with a 100 shot on a GSR motor...
you wont be able to get a swap and turbo it for that much i wouldnt think... unless you shop around...
you could boost an LS motor, get the swap for pretty cheap and then a decent turbo setup...

$3k for a B built B swap and a turbo setup......keep dreaming. Also, i'm really shocked that people have been rather nice so far. With an open ended question like that, you usually dont fare too well. I know you must have a lot of questions, but you also do need to do your own research. There is plenty of info available if you chose to look for it...

Re: (supraccordlx)
Whats included in that $3k? Motor only, or motor parts + motor + turbo?
If you want it fast and reliable, I'll assume thats motor build only. $200 LS shortblock, $500 vtec head, $900 bearings/rods/pistons, $200 seals/hg/etc, $300 water/oil pumps, plugs/wires/dizzy/etc $400. So $3k would do it.
Otherwise a low-milage JDM B16, a 57trim, 2.5/3bar map sensor, turbo parts, and cromepro could just barely fit under the $3k, yet still get you into 12's.

i really struggle to think he can make a good setup w/ a built engine for less than $3k. The small things are going to catch up with you....like and exhaust and tuning. On my setup that's nearly $800 alone. Not to mention a clutch ($400) and all of the other parts you're going to need......i'm not saying it cant be done, but i wouldn't attempt it for that little money....

If you're planning to spend $3k on ONLY the built engine and swap, then you're fine. When i initially read it, i took that to mean you're building the engine and finding an entire turbo setup for less than $3k....which i see as a difficult thing to accomplish.
Engine build for $3k shouldn't be a problem....LS/VTEC ftw on that one

There are a ton of people using LS/VTECs with no problems on this site. There are probably more of them than there are straight GSR engines here. Personally i wouldn't worry about using an LS/VTEC if you do it correctly. I'm planning to build one this summer and through next winter for spring 08......god that's a long time still....

just based on availability and price, i'm going with either a B18A or B18B....just depending on what is around when i decide to buy. Also, i'm using a GSR head....

yea.. just find a decent b18a/b block in good shape and do that...
GSR and Type R blocks are nice too, but usually alot more due to the solid girdle and just being a better all around block
