Default Engine assembly/cleaning parts.

Ive got the head off for my arp studs and cometic HG.. never really assembeled anything internal..

I carefully took everything apart.. labeled etc. Now, its got that dirty oil smell, and before i put everything back together i want to make sure i clean it all.

1) What do i use to clean like the cam caps, spray bars, end caps etc..?
2) How should i prep the block/head surface for the new gasket.. (old gasket was MLS)
3) Assemblly lube - any kind works?, i should use it on all matting surfaces where oil normally lubricates.

Keep in mind on this, all i have apart is just the cams/caps and the head, valvetrain is still together.

Ive got all the TQ specs, order etc.

I was thinking.. Just wipe the stuff down with some brake cleaner on a clean rag? Same with the block surface and head surface.

Then lube everything up well??

Thanks.

Why did you have the head off? I wouldnt worry about oil residue, just lubricate the cams, and rocker arms, and install.

Thanks..!

PS. I like to re-assemble stuff clean, plus there was a bit of junk that was on the spray bars just from the engine sitting w/o a valve cover in the corner for a few weeks.

So a bit of brake cleaner.. or paint thinner on a clean rag, and wipe the stuff down?

What about the block surface and head surface for the HG?

do you have compressed air and a solvent tank? if so just wash it real good in solvent then blow it off, if not then spay the **** out of it with brake clean or stuff like that and blow it off, if you dont have compressed air than go buy a compresser cuz you need one anyway

ok, thanks.

I have a small bubble compressor.. runs air nailers and pumps up tires. It should work ok.

Thanks.
