ELECTRIC SUPERCHARGER (question)
i have seen some honda electric superchargers around claming to gain up to 10% - 15% power and they only go around $100, anyone have any experience with them, or if this is true? im limited on money, about $300 and looking to add a little bit of power to my b18b in my 89 civic hatch, so i wondered if an electric chargers with a performance chip would be worth it? currently only modifications to my car are 2 1/4 full exhaust, intake k&N filter, MSD everything

I'll be nice.
They don't work. They don't flow nearly enough air and the 10-15% gain they advertise is probably at 1500 rpm (if it actually gains any power at all). Peak you'll lose power because the fan would be a restriction in your intake track.
Furthermore, a "performance chip" that isn't done for your specific setup is most likely going to hurt performance also. The only way to do something like that is to get on a dyno and do it right.
My advice? Start piecing together a turbo kit. $300 is a good start depending on the route you want to go and the B18B is a great motor for turbo.

Re: ELECTRIC SUPERCHARGER (njn63)
Well no they don't work but if you're setting you mind on it follow this... if you pay over a 100 dollars for it your insane. You can piece together one for about 60 bucks....you buy one of those inhouse fan motors that go on boats that usually drain water out of the boat...usually runs about 40 bucks...then you pay a momentary switch from radio shack...4.63 for 2 of them... and you buy a length of wire from radio shack which is about 8 bucks for the tiny gauge you'd need. Mount the momentary switch at the base of where the the throttle hits fully open either under the pedal or under the hood and that way when you have the car under full throttle it will turn it on....
Yes I'm sure a lot of you are going to say/ask "he really had that on his car didn't he" the answer is no...I did however read how to do it but I never attempted or wanted to attempt to do it. I figured I'd be nice and help the OP out because if someone has their mind set to it they'll have to find out the hard way about it.

if you're able to produce some boost and i dont know how much it would flow you should definately be able to push more air through, add more fuel and gain more hp. how much will it flow i have no idea and if it doens't flow enough you might just have a fancy version of tornado. there are electic supercharges that work and their cost is into 4 digits. but even a well developed system will have its limits and is not going to be unlimited like turbocharger or conventional supercharger as it will need to recharge in between runs unless you drive around with tons of batteries.
i do'nt think enough people on here tried or shared enough information if it really works. if its good for 5-10whp, i'd rather take that for couple hundred dollars vs 500 dollar mugen intake or some other n/a addon that cost hundreds and delivers only few whp.
bottom line is.. you get what you pay for. if all you got is $300 put it in a bank.. in FI you gotta play with 4 digits to get real results
