Re: ek sleeper... top mount, back door IC, and A/C....
check the phase on the front and rear driveshafts... just mark a reference line on both, make it wheel hop and recheck... i could see machining a puck for the tcase down the road... w/ a selectable rear end, there should be no driveability issues because the drive shaft is just spinning and engaging nothing...

here is the switch for the rear diff... i just wired the compressor and valve together... this is mounted in the cubby hole in the front of the shifter... on the top side completely out of view...

Where is the actual compressor mounted again? Is it noisy at all? do you hear it running while you drive?

Re: ek sleeper... top mount, back door IC, and A/C....
back to the driveshaft... i made a full on rookie mistake... i hardly never can resist taking something apart to see how it works, and the center joint in my crv driveshaft proved why i should always trust my gut... i way dead on about how i thought it looked and searched my *** off, but no one ever takes them apart... everyone makes a big deal about keeping the shaft strait as to not damage it... well, i want address those things... the center joint is a cv... just like an axle shaft, nothing special, nothing fragile... hell, i had to beat on the damn thing just to get it apart... the female part is lightly crimped to keep it from coming apart...
so my mistake... ASSuming that the entire female portion of the joint was splined, i "centered" up the the male portion so i would have plenty of play to install it into the transmission end... however the female part of the shaft didnt spline all the way up... and the knuckle portion of the shaft was just at the edge of the female portion... when the motor torqued, it allows the shaft to just barely slip out, thus the violent wheel hop... it was in and out of the female part of the cup that it would kindof engage, then slip....
here you can see the knuckle... a c clip holds it on... nothing special here...
here you can see how messed up the "splines" are on the inside... look at the shiney spots, you can definately tell where is was slipping...
here is the replacement joints... these are from a suzuki samurai and use the same joints as the dsm's... they are huge compared to the honda stuff... a couple adapters and these will bolt right up... notice the smallest spot on the honda shaft is less than 3/4"... not exactly a warm and fuzzy feeling... the suzuki shaft is over 1"...
comparison shots...

Very very cool stuff. I'm waiting patiently for videos in action. Aslo, what city are you from? I'm from Huntsville but live in Gulf Shores back and fourth. Reason I ask is you said you went to Montgomery. I'd love to see this thing in person one day.

Great find on the drive shaft. Was there no way to make the Honda unit work because of the short amount of spline on the female end? Or did you just like the Suzuki piece more because it's beefier?
Does this mean your air compressor setup was possibly not needed as the wheel hop was from that shaft jumping splines? Either way you have a killer setup.

Re: ek sleeper... top mount, back door IC, and A/C....
im sure the stock shaft could work fine... they are a bitch to work with, friction welded joints, nonserviceable u joints and the tiny male shaft on the slip yoke... and the suzuki parts are way beefier... and no, i dont think the compressor was needed, however, i am glad it worked out like this because the compressor is a superior design with no delay on engagement...
I dont really clear about wheel hop then.

My apologies, as I was working through the response list tonight, I didn't stop to consider what you were saying.
So you have a 2000 Civic into which you've transplanted the drive train from a CR-V?
And if that is correct, can I assume it was from a 1997-2001 CR-V?
Did you also transplant the B20 engine?
So you want to join HondaSUV.com because of the drive train in your Civic?

While the early Civic Wagons with RT4WD are an early version of the RT4WD system used in the CR-V and Element, it is only similar in that it uses rotational differences between the front and rear wheels to transfer some power to the rear wheels when the front wheels slip. The actual RT4WD mechanism is quite different. And I believe Honda stopped selling the Wagon in 1995 or 1996.
I am not aware of any Civic made in 2000 that came with RT4WD from Honda.
Can you provide web links to information about the model of Civic you have?
Thanks,
Racoon

wow what an idiot?? they havent made waggons since 1991! Unless you include the 92-95 Honda Civic RTSI that also had the R4AWD
