ek sleeper... top mount, back door IC, and A/C.... and now awd...

this is project that we have worked on for about 5 months now... the idea was to build a reliable 400hp car that looked and funtioned like it was oem... a true sleeper...
chassis... full energy suspension throughout and a little prothane thrown in there where ES "complete kit" fell short... tokico whites and 1.25" springs, i didnt want the car to be slammed out for a couple of reasons, poor geometry, poor ride quailty and remember it needs to look stock on the outside... staying w/ a mild drop, i was able to keep a decently thick tire on it, 205-55-15's proxes4s on a set of SI's... these fill the wheelwell nice and should give me a good ride... i also have a set of MT 225-50-15s on two more SI's... custom traction bar setup as well new balljoints, tierods, manual rack, and brakes... exterior... nothing special, the car was wrecked when i bought it, so some frontend paint is coming, aside from that, everything fits under the stock bumper... interior... i didnt want any visible gauges, so i put a double din head unit in and used a backup camera to monitor the gauges that are mounted in the gutted out glove box... the cruise control is also stuffed in there... this is probably my favorite part, the gauges, not the cruise control... lol so now for the meat and potatos... we started w/ fully balanced GSR block, eagle rods and 9:1 CP pistons... a ported b16 head w/ skunk2 valve springs and retainers, a S2 intake manifold ported to fit an omni power 70mm throttle body, along w/ 750cc injectors and an AEM fuel rail and FPR... we converted the fuel system to -6 trick flow fuel lines... the turbo is a precision 6031, tial wastegate and greddy BOV all recirculating, just so that it keeps it quiet... we had to custom build a back door intercooler so we could keep the windshield washer bottle :) .... 2.5" piping was used... a top mount sch10 manifold as well as full 3" stainless, mandrel bent exhaust w/ a magnaflow resonator and full size muffler round out the exhaust side of things... everything will be tuned w/ s300 as well as a full wire tuck... we are using a GSR trans w/ lsd and carbon coated synchro's along w/ a stage 3 competition clutch.... stock axle shafts for now... now for some pics... this is how it looked the day i bought it, it was fixed that weekend and off to inspection... Attachment 451774 Attachment 451775 here is a shot of the radio... the second is the box they are mounted in, the camera mounts in the foreground... Attachment 451776 Attachment 451777 Attachment 451778 this shows the new bumper support, this is the same size as the " styrofoam" support, i needed room for the intercooler, but didnt want to lose the bumper... you can also see the relocated battery... Attachment 451779 Attachment 451780 a few shots of the engine bay... the downpipe is wrapped in a sleeve to help w/ under hood temps... as well as everything is ceramic coated... Attachment 451781 Attachment 451782 Attachment 451783 we wrapped the harness in this braided loom... its a pain to work w/, but well worth it... Attachment 451784 |

nice build!

Re: ek sleeper... top mount, back door IC, and A/C....
What A/C condensor are you using? Have any pictures of around the turbo and the a/c line to the condensor.

this is the catch can setup... i wanted the engine bay to be as clean as possible, so we made a bracket that bolted it to the rear lower side of the intake manifold, bungs are welded to the valve cover and a baffle was built to keep oil from slinging into the lines... all of the catch can lines are trickflow -10 and a k&n filter tops it off... the lower lines drain back into the lower part of the block, thus, keeping the system maintenence free...

looking good!!!!

Re: ek sleeper... top mount, back door IC, and A/C....
well she's alive!!! after basically building a wiring harness from scratch, it fired right up... i shortened an obdII harness and converted it to obdI... pin by pin, added a connector between the engine harness and the body harness so that the engine harness could be removed... i managed to put the IAC pin in the wrong spot, and had the power wire installed to ground instead of key power and i have problems w/ the ELD... i know i can turn the ELD off in the s300, what are the down sides to that, i am going to try to figure out where i screwed up, but i am still interested in the proper function as well as the downside to just turning it off...

that is awesome. any more updated pics?
very cool i must say. sleepers are the best. |
Re: ek sleeper... top mount, back door IC, and A/C....
I don't think anything is wrong with removing the ELD....somebody else will chime in.
Good job so far. |

here are some shots of the traction bar setup... the tabs that bolt into the frame rails are laser cut from 1/4" mild steel and the crossmember is .120 wall DOM... the heims are 1/2" and the bars are 1" .120 wall... the control arm tabs bolt into the bolt that sandwiches the LCA together...
Attachment 451631 Attachment 451632 Attachment 451633 Attachment 451634 Attachment 451635 a couple of shots of the intercooler and downpipe... Attachment 451636 Attachment 451637 Attachment 451638 Attachment 451639 and todays progress... hood stripped and primed, bumper repaired and some dings fixed in the fenders... Attachment 451640 you can see here how the bumper fits up w/ the IC behind it, everything in tact with a little grinding on the back side of the "grill" in the bumper... obviously the IC is blacked out now... Keep up the good work. Nice to see all that hard work has paid off.

this only looks at parameters set by the ecm... would work as a boost gauge, but wouldnt give me a/f or oil pressure... these are nice units though...

the a/f can be read by the ecu and should be for data logging purposes, and you can also put a 5v oil sensor imputed in to the ecu so both can be seen on the tuner view
thats an interesting thought... maybe next time i guess... thanks for the info... |

the front end is painted and i couldn't be more satisfied... i long blocked and reprimed everything, water sanded and took it to my friend that owns a bodyshop and let them spray it in there booth... i am most satisfied w/ the headlights... these things were practically garbage... the driverside had been sprayed w/ what appeared to be rattlecan clear and i cleaned it off w/ a razor blade... then i took 400 grit on the DA to it and finished up w/ 600 grit wet sanding... we just sprayed regular dupont clear on it and they look new... not just good, brand new, and they are genuine honda parts as is everything on the front end that was used to fix the wreck...
line locks in the rear and a little more wiring and i'll be ready to drive this thing!!! it will happen by the weekend... Attachment 451574 |
Re: ek sleeper... top mount, back door IC, and A/C....
Looks good...def liking the sleeper status...especially the wire sheathing and tuck...clean
If you're keeping AC...the area behind/around the AC condensr HAS to be tight... what with the turbo...manifold...wastegate...BOV...condensor all withing a 1 foot area. It's hard to tell from the pics that you have posted up. Got any good ones showing clearances in that area? |
