EGT vs Safeguard
Can't decide if I really need EGT gauge.. I plan to purchase safeguard, it monitors engine for knocking, wouldn't it serve better than egt since it retards timing? I plan to get the car tuned with wideband O2/hondata..

Re: EGT vs Safeguard (Sonny)
hmm.. to me it seems like they all do the same thing...
for instance.. a/f would show change if running bad mixture/spark.. as well as egt would read different, so i kinda see them as the same thing.. safeguard reads knocking, so.. wouldn't knocking occur from again bad mixture/spark? plus it changes timing...

Re: EGT vs Safeguard (vtec.dc2)
Well, there really isn't a gauge that is going to prevent something from happening if it goes bad. But, for example, I have a Greddy EGT gauge and it has a Peak/Hold memory and a warning light that comes on at whatever temp I set it to. So, once I start to boost for a long time and start to get a little hotter than normal, a red light comes on and lets me know and I can let off or whatever. Safeguard would be the more functioning piece to get since it will actually do something, but the gauges are nice to see things before they happen. Like Sonny said, they can be used together.
