Default EGT to high?!?!?!

I recently put a drag kit on my ls integra and i got a new fuel pump for it. The EGT was 8 at idol and the 12-13 driving. The fuel pump lowerd it to 6 idol and 11-12 driving. People tell me it is still to high... what should i do to lower it??

My EGT gauge reads about 800 when idle, and around 1200-1225 when boosting.

I see 1300-1400F under heavy boost in the top of 3rd and 4th gear pulls.

what kinda egt readings are u guys getting going up hills??
700-800ºF at idle (really depends on ambient temp)
1000ºF low speed cruising
1200-1300ºF going up a hill or high speed driving
I never really see over 1300-1400ºF boosting, even at high speeds, though I haven't taken it over about 90mph since I've had it turboed...drive responsibly

My car is running REALLY REALLY rich with stock timing at about 7psi of boost. I'm in the process of installing a MSD 6BTM (though it blew my ICM) and then I'll be able to lean it out a bit...

But, here's the thing...retarding timing INCREASES egt's and going closer to stoichiometric (14.7:1) A/F ratio from running rich would also increase egt's, so it's going to get hotter?! Maybe I need colder plugs? running one step colder than stock now (good luck finding colder for a d16z6)...

The REAL question is where did you mount your probe?

This shouldn't matter. Proper readings are with the probe intalled near the head. If he installed it father downstream, the reading would be getting cooler. The cause of high EGTs could be from a number of reasons...

* running lean (not leaner than 14:1 though because the temps should read cooler past stoich)

* running supa-dupa rich

* severly retarded timing

At any rate, I'd find out the cause asap

yea that's way high on the greddy egt. I think your running way to rich or your motor is gonna crap out soon. At idle i read 300 and at WOT i never get above 800. Correct me if i'm wrong, but i was told that the most you want it to get is 850.

yea, the numbers he's reading is on a greddy egt, which is way to high. I'm not sure how yours is. The greddy is in celcius i believe and 12-1300 degrees is way to hot.

I dont understand how if he was running lean his EGT would be too hot? I though it would be too hot if he was running rich? Please explain the relationship between lean/rich to EGT for me.

He is not running rich, he is running lean when he is that hot...the hotter the egt temps the leaner your a/f ratio..he should never go above 900c on the greddy..

Read this tech article...
http://www.sdsefi.com/techegt.htm
It should clear up a lot of the misinformation floating around.
