Default EG B16 build turbo suggestions

Hello,
This is my first turbo built and i'm trying to decide what turbo to get for my eg.

My goal is a 450-475 whp street car, maybe some occasional drag racing

Specs so far:

B16a
GSR head
Darton sleeved block
84mm bore
Cp 9:1 pistons
Eagle H-beam rods
Valves
Polished crank
ACL bearings
port matched head
port & polished
Skunk 2 70mm tb
Victor x intake manifold
Skunk 2 pro series cam gears
Aeromotive stealth 340 fuel pump
AEM fuel rail
AEM fp regulator
Hondata S300 V3
GSR tranny
Competion stage 5 clutch

Questions:

1. What size turbo?

2. Single scroll or twin scroll?

3. 38mm or 44mm wastegate?

Thanks

First, go higher compression. Like 10.5:1

Something like a GT3076 would be nice, but there are lots of.turbos that will.work.great for those power goals.

10:1 bare minimum, 11:1 would be better. 3076 should get you what you want. Make sure to get an LSD transmission - an open differential will make you (and your time slips) look like a joke. Don't waste your money on the fuel rail and FPR - you don't need them. What you DO need (and what I don't see anywhere on that list) is injectors. That clutch will also be more than you need - 8026-2600-X and 8026-1620 are the two part numbers you should be looking at from Competition Clutch, if that's the company you want to go with.

3076 would be suitable for your power goals. Precision has a line of entry level turbos that should fit with what you're looking to make also http://www.precisionturbo.net/turboc...rbochargers/18.
Keep in mind should you want to put down more power say on race gas I would look into a slightly bigger turbo to begin with.

Single scroll T3 turbo

38mm will work but like I said before if you plan on making more power in the future go with 44mm. That way you're not buying things twice.

What cams are you planning on running?

Precision? Yeah, sure, if you want to waste your money. Stick to a good company. Garrett, Turbonetics, hell, I'd run an eBay knockoff before I ran a Precision. At least when that one ***** on you, you can just replace it for cheap.

Garrett is a great company, nothing bad to be said about their turbos. Ultimately it all comes down to budget. I know plenty of people running precisions, including myself, without issues. Their quality used to be garbage but they seemed to have cleaned up their act for the most part. Their customer service definitely has room for improvement. You could also look into borg warner as those turbos can take a beating.

Used to be garbage? Still is garbage, and their customer support is just as bad. There are many better options out there.

Without a doubt there are many better options. I'm just going by what I've had luck with.

I bought the motor already assembled so it already had 9:1 pistons and the stage 5 clutch in it. I'll be getting an lsd an injectors soon.

I was planning on using the gsr cams for now. What cams do you recommend using?

Borg Warner S256 or S258/9 would be my choice - I used to run an S256 and loved it. IF you have the money, the EFR series is amazing, but will set you back $1800+, granted it has an integrated wastegate, blow off valve and boost controller on the turbo, so you save money elsewhere.

i tuned a few cars with borg's a few years ago and was impressed with them overall.

you will need a 44mm gate, and depending on manifold design and turbo size you may still have a tiny bit of creep.

just putting this out there, but have you driving a 450-475whp civic? its pretty useless on the street unless you have only flat open highways and/or are out doing 80 rolls with gsxr 750's.

350whp is solid and can trap you mid 110's more than enough to roll on a lot of cars and get you high 11s with good 60fts , 400whp can get you low to mid 11s and traps around 120 so now you are hanging with some serious cars which i dont run into often thats for sure. 475 is pretty stupid in every gear but 4th and at that your on the limiter in a few seconds and now boosting in 5th and going 130+ mph.

look at my numbers in my sig, i have over half a decade experience with what you are looking to get...

mine makes more than 450 and its not useless on the street. s300 with boost by gear by rpm is nice. turn it down just enough to hook in each gear. obviously you wont be able to hook 450 in first or second gear, but get some sticky tires and you would be surprised

I've seen ppl make decent power on stock gsr cams. If the budget is tight and other things are higher priority just stick with those for now.

I loved that turbo. The spool sounds is the iconic 'dentist drill' sound and it spooled quicker than I had expected it to.

As for the WG, that's very good advice. I had an SLS Prototype mani with an F38 Tial @ 1bar and it crept to about 16.5-17psi. I ended up having to run off wastegate spring because we couldnt control the creep once an EBC was thrown in the mix. Once that S256 got spooling, it didnt want to stop . We had a little oops moment before I told them to pull the EBC - it was being tuned in the 18-20psi range when it suddenly spiked to ~26psi (made 502whp 'untuned' on my very first forged engine build). I'm glad everything held together....needless to say, the EBC came off after that.

Thanks for all the good info guys.

What about single vs twinscroll setups? Is the twinsrcoll worth the extra cost?

You have to be careful about that terminology - many people use that to refer to a divided housing, not a true twin-scroll.

Having said that, finding true twin-scroll turbos is actually pretty rare. Only a few turbocharger lines (like the Borg Warner EFR) come with the option of a true twin-scroll housing.
