precision turbo rebuilds
Has anyone had to go thru a rebuild with precision.
I recently sent my turbo(6265) in for a new billet compressor wheel
Due to some bent fins and possibly a rebuild if needed.
They wouldn't give me a price range or even a wost case scenario price quote.has Anybody gone thru a similar situation that wants to share thier experence and how much they charged. Also how long did it take?

Re: precision turbo rebuilds
Yes there customer service is pretty bad, this is a trend in the industy of sports compact especially Hondas. Probably why a lot of people don't stick around.
It took them about 50 days from the time they recived it to when they were able to contact me and all they said is its pretty bad and offered me a killer deal on a new unit. But I was so disgusted I declined.

Re: precision turbo rebuilds
I hear a lot of bad about their service and parts. I guess I was lucky. I sent in my 6766 and got a new wheel and new compressor housing and got it back in less then 2 weeks. And haven't had a problem with it at all.

Re: precision turbo rebuilds
I hear noting but horror stories about precision. Why are people even always having to rebuild them? I have over 100,000 trouble free miles on my Garrett gt3582r before I sold it. I have almost 30,000 miles on my current Garrett gtx3576r.

Re: precision turbo rebuilds
It uses air foil bearings IIRC. They don't require lubrication of any kind and are basically frictionless.
I wonder who precision is getting parts from these days.. first they used Garrett, then they were dropped. They started ordering Garrett parts through 3rd parties and got caught. Then they started using Turbonetics parts... I think now it's a blend of precision and Turbonetics parts. Which could explain the delay in turnaround... They have to wait to place an order for certain parts from whatever supplier they are using.

I have no idea how many miles are on it because the car hasn't had an odometer in 4 years, but I just replaced the timing belt, water pump, and LMAs.

Re: precision turbo rebuilds
in regards to what?
that's what I heard Precision is doing lately... and from what I recall talking to a few guys at Comp certain models of the oil-less turbo use air foil bearings, mostly the smaller turbos with higher shaft speeds which are required for the bearing to operate properly.
That could have been a few early prototypes though, the larger ones use a self contained oil in the CHRA. I haven't talked to anyone from Comp since the oil-less units were "officially" released so things could have changed

Re: precision turbo rebuilds
I would just be patient and see what they say that's all you really can do, if you demand for them to send back your turbo no telling what they might do. Shitty situation but there are a lot of other places of business that you would have to wait as well maybe not 6-8 weeks for them to even look at it, but no one is gonna be able to instantly repair your unit.

Re: precision turbo rebuilds
I sent my sc61 with 0.63 a/r to Pureturbos.com for rebuild, billet wheel upgrade, 0.82 a/r upgrade, porting of compressor housing to fit the bigger 62mm billet wheel, and porting of exhaust housing to fit the bigger 66mm exhaust wheel. It cost me $750 and now it's a 6266 with according to them a more efficient and more peaky billet wheel than the ots billet pte6266. I saved $250 going through them as opposed to paying for a brand new 6266. I haven't dynoed yet because I blew the motor at the beginning of the season, so numbers will have to wait.

It's not that folks aren't "helpful" it's making suggestions that they do not have an informed knowledge of. E-Knowladge is worth jack ****, second hand knowledge is worth as much. Put a dollar on the line and some effort behind it and you will develop knowledge.
