Default edelbrock #1500 turbo kit for 00 civic question...

In the description for the edelbrock model 1500 turbo kit for the civic 00 d16y8 it says "we've wastegated it down to 6-7psi and it comes with a fuel management piggyback controller which requires no additional tuning.

Does that mean I wouldn't have to take it to a dyno to get it tuned like u normally would with a turbo or what?

I bolded your answer for you in your own post.

BUT, you do realize much better options are out there than a piggyback right? Not to mention those kits have sadly been discontinued for years now...

Yea the edelbrock kits haven't been available for quite some time.

And yes the include management (extra injectors and controller iirc) were designed to be bolt ons with no additional tuning if boost pressures weren't changed. It was crude though because iirc the piggyback did not modify ignition timing in any way, it was basically a fancy FMU. However even at factory boost levels a chipped P28 would have been a better solution by allowing ignition timing alteration which would have resulted in a bit more power and torque at factory boost levels. Anyone raising boost pressures had to ditch the included management and moved to a chipped P28 at minimum.

Boost without a tune is so very, painfully stupid, regardless of what the kit includes.

The piggyback provided the tune. Think of the blue box included with the Greddy kits. It worked just fine for the preset boost pressure the 18G ran. The Edelbrock kit used the same thing just with more modern technology. Both the Greddy and Edelbrock kits were able to get CARB certification which isn't easy so the tuning portion of the kit had to be effective.

These kits were beezneez IMO. Most complete, high quality parts kit I've seen from a major company. But like Wantboost said, good luck finding them.

Alright cool thanks guys. Yea I saw these kits a while back when they were available and I wouldve like to have got one if I had the cash. So fast foward to now and I'm starting to research and learn about turbo setups. All I want is 6-7 boost and I was wondering about the tuning and I remember reading that from the edelbrock kit that as long as you were in the low ranges of boost you could somewhat get away with just upgrading to bigger injectors..run higher octane..retard ignition a couple degrees..and setting up the FMU to the correct ratio.

"Low boost levels" is no excuse for using a shitty FMU hack. This isn't the 90's. Get a real tune.
