I went down the same road as you. I looked at the Ebay kits and then I started doing research and read about all of the horror stories. I know that replacing a D if something messes up is relatively inexpensive but is it really worth that? I'm piecing my kit together and I am having a blast and learning alot about why this part is needed and how it works with others, etc. You can piece a kit together that would be 10x better than that kit. Hell, go to homemadeturbo.com if you want to see more.

You could pick up an HF manifold and a turbo out of the junkyard for $50 and a BOV of a DSM for like $25. Deals are everywhere. Heck I have a CT26 from a Supra sitting in my garage that needs to be rebuilt. What part of TN are you in? I'm heading home in the near future and I would drop it off or if you piece the rest of the kit together I would stop in and help you install the kit.

Goodluck with whatever you decide. Have fun with it!

i live in nashville area. i would like to peice a kit together, but i dont feel like haveing to get this gasket from here, that gasket from there...it becomes a headache trying to track down the small stuff. i could get all of the big stuff together, but the small stuff would be a headache.

if you don't have the basic knowledge that one needs in order to piece together your own setup, then the chances that you are going to be able to setup an EBAY kit by yourself is pretty SLIM. most of them have fitment issues from what everyone says. they are not true bolt on kits.
Buy a full reputable kit, Greddy, Edelbrock, etc. it's fairly easy to find used GREDDY turbo kits in the $1000 range.

Boost and small budget is a tough thing to accomplish if you don't know what you are doing. piecing together a setup from ebay parts isn't as simple as just tightening a few bolts and then driving off into the sunset. Ebay parts aren't like Staples, there is no EASY button.

thanks for that. i would love to be able to throw the money down on a full-race kit, but damn they are expensive. worth the money, but a lot of it.

Your best bet would probably be the GReddy kit because it is probably a bit cheaper with the intercooler than a Full race or any other kit but you will most likely get tired of the hp and would want more hp pretty quick. I did not know much about turbos when I first got myself into this mess!!! But now about a year into my build I really have learned alot and I am really enjoying every bit of the build so far.

I was considering the GReddy kit also but when it came time to look for one I noticed that everyone and there mammas were selling there used kit. So I did some research and found that people get tired of this kit pretty quick and want more hp. So I just chose the long route and desided to build my own. So I picked up a block and a head and started from there. I was going to build the B16 that I have in my car right now but I new that the motor would be out of my car for a long while and that is not an option because I use my car alot. I really do not believe that there is an easy way to boost a ride, I think it takes alot of time and money and ALOT of research. Unless you are experienced and have alot of cash up front it wont be easy. Of coarse this is just my opinion!!

I just bought a kit the other day for $2300 and I'm still in the process of buying parts for it. I probably have $2700 in it now and I need gauges ($400-$600) and tuning! Boost is expensive as ****!

Its really gonna pay off when its all done and I don't have to worry about **** cracking or the turbo splitting in half, its all good stuff, so it will be worth it in the end.

ok, so i decided to build my own turbo kit. i had a friend go through everything i would need and i built a kit on spoolinperformance.com it came to jsut over 2 grand, which will be doable when i want to boost my car, it will be 400hp capable, which i am not looking to do, but it is better safe than sorry. thanks for all of the help, if you have any suggestions i am open to them. here is the kit i put together...
1 x Log Manifold
1 x Garrett T3 Super60
1 x SPoolin 27X6.5X3.5 intercooler
1 x Tial 38mm Wastegate
1 x 2.5" SPoolin Downpipe
1 x Type-RS BOV
1 x EG/EK ALUM CNC FMIC KIT
1 x ATP Single Stage MBC Boost controller
1 x T3/T04E Oil Feed/Return kit
6 x 2.50 straight coupler silicone
12 x 2.5 inch Tbolt

2043 dollars

if you see anything that i missed let me know, i am gunna run dsm 450's so i would pick those up from a junkyard.

no more greddy emanage... so consider a good ems. if u want something not to expensive, go with crome or neptune... or whatever ware your tuner is using.

if u have a little cash to spend go with a s300

weather you buy a pre assembled kit that has everything in it or you buy piece by piece till its a full kit and save money. its all going to be the same amount of work installing it. weather its a whole kit from company or whole kit you bought peaice here and there. same amount of stuff on it.
for install instructions use this its the best ive seen.

yes will need a fuel pump. and you can get all that for under $1500 and a good tune on a program like crome, neptune, turbo edit. ect... you just got to buy some parts used. like a tial 38mm wg with a couple thousand miles and a fmic can be found all day low cost for johnnyracecar or a cca. log manifold used but with no cracks or a drag gen3 cast manifold. all great parts that are used but still great. and will save you a few hundred. if you have access to a welder you can buy just some piping from racing solutions for like $50. you should also check homemadeturbo.com for parts. easly can be done for under $1500 with all great parts.

get them injectors balanced cleaned to make sure they flow right. make sure downpipe matches manifold type and has the right flange for your turbocharger plus a/c clearance if you like to keep a/c. that turbo should work just fine for under 300whp if not less. you'll need dumptube fabricated, air filter and intake (i made one from cai). do'nt forget gauges - if you get a nice EBC - it will come with boost gauge plus peakn hold and boost limiter or gear based control

When a part has JDM stamped on it, you KNOW it has to be good

Basicly all high-volume ebay crap is worth what you pay for it: half shipping, half material, rarely >1% quality.

hey ive been using a ssac kit for almost 3 years now, i did a minor adjustment on the wastegate outlet on the manifold, and my kit didnt have the dp so i made my own, the turbo is still real tight and i really have no complaints now that all the works done, i spent 900 on my kit and about another 700 to make it all complete.. the made about 300 at 8 psi wiht 2.5 exhaust and charge pipes, the cars about to be tuned again at 12-15 with all the cash i saved i bought myself a set of pistons and rods,,,,, i have alot of patients for this **** so its alright, but if you dont have the patients i could see why people hate em so bad

ssac worked for me

thanks for the feed back, but i am gunna go with the above kit, i will just order all of my stuff from them so that i dont have to worry about things fitting, when you select parts, it asks you bolt pattern, wastegate flange size, everything so that it all matches up for your setup. i know a guy that knows the owner of spoolin performance so i may get a deal on it too, we'll see. but i have never heard anything bad from anyone about them. let me know what you know about spoolin performance.
