E85 vs 100oct?
Can some of you[that have researched/run] both tell me why someone in the midwest[where E85 stations are everywhere] would run 100oct in a 400whp Turbo car instead of E85?
100oct=$6/gal
E85=$2/gal
100oct=$6/gal
E85=$2/gal
Thanks though!

Because we don't all always want to run on race gas or E85 all the time. ROM rating for E85 is different than the actual 100 octane, which is why we don't use it in MI or OH much.
well i was used to put 5gal ($50) of 110oct race gas in my car every weekend for racing...not because i needed it but because i wanted it for safety reasons (boost spike ETC)..now i run on E85 and have been for the past 20k miles... its not only cheaper it makes more power... i dotn know what that guy is running race gas over E85... maybe he doesnt have the fuel system for it or something idk... maybe he likes the smell of 100oct
.... i may not be getting as good of gas milage but i have gotten 28mpg on the highway with E85 (AFR's were high 17's

I guess also because many of us here have multiple cars, and rarely DD the high power stuff. When we race, we take the RACE car. When we don't, we drive something else. Extra cars and beaters are a buyers market in this state, and can be gotten cheaper than it is to tune and refit the HP cars we have now.
You're looking at it from a cost/gallon standpoint for daily driving. For many people here, that doesn't apply. Spending hundreds more in fuel system changes and tuning just to save a few bucks at the pump later just doesn't work in MI. We have too many 110+ octane stations at the pump here. Its like spending $500 to save $50. Not really worth it. Even with big fuel systems.
Not to mention if you leave town to an area that doesn't have E85, you're kinda stuck unless you can change your settings of your management system to go back to 93 octane, but who wants to have a laptop in the car all the time?
But, to each his own. enjoy and godspeed.

What fuel system changes are you referring to? Just adding injectors that can cycle 30% more fuel? If its pre-purchase, it would just be changing the order on injector size(no biggie)
Take a look at an E85 station map for Chicagoland.......Its unreal!
Thanks for the input guys...

If ur fuel system is good enough to make the hp that your looking for on E85, then switching back to gas should be no biggie.. Just need your tuner to street tune on gas. So you can switch back and forth.
It's already done. Why work even more? I guess the $3/gal difference just doesn't matter for the cost it takes to transfer things over to run on corn.. Just not as convenient as perhaps other people in the midwest at E85 hubs.
And more fuel pump, typically you use an additional 30% more fuel that what you would use with Gasoline. So if you want to make 600hp on E85 you need a fuel system that would support 800hp using Gasoline and so on.
ok let me ask you this then and see if i have the right stuff or if i need something else .
i have a 255 fuel pump,aeromotive fuel pressure regulator,880 injectors, golden eagle fuel rail and im trying to make 450whp. do i need to change anything?

Not really.. people forget to factor in the Cooling Factor E85 has...
i have seen plonty of C16 Vs E85 tunes where E85 makes a significent amount more... From what ive read but i dont know how accurate it is, E85 has an octane rating about 105-107 but its motor Octane is 115-116...
