RACE GAS Question?
im trying to just get a hold of Evans but i figured id ask. whats the lowest octane race gas you can use on your race gas tune? 112 is what i was tuned on for race gas and its tough to get a hold of around here with out spending 500 on a barrel. i can find leaded but i dont want to use it. a local Sunoco sells 100 unleaded race gas and wonder if this is ok to run on with my race gas map and 30psi?
its probabley not gonna be good.thats a bigger gap then going from 93 to 100.
And even besides that, when ur running 30psi, then u should have a specific gas for it.

i said i had 112 tune, but its really hard to find unleaded around here unless im buying barrels of it and the shop that does get it in says they are having trouble getting them anyways. i live in muscle town where everyone uses leaded. i didnt know what the lowest octane i could run safely could be

if you are tuned on 112, running c16 may actually slow you down. there isnt a speed shop anywhere near you? hell there is a vd dealer in newark, we cant get fuel from them, but 100yds down the road is a retailer, we get it from them.

straight from evans website:
Evans Tuning stocks Sunoco cam2 (110 octane).

ya thats what i read as well. then i see him on my dyno graph say c16 but i swore he said 110. im still waiting for his response
and i was told to stay away from leaded because it can cause pump, filter and injector damage

lol, who told you that? it can shorten the lifespan of your o2 sensor, but mine has been running strong for 1000's of miles. i only run race gas.

i actually forgot who told me that, i just remember hearing it. maybe ill see whats offered. andrea (evans tuning) thinks i was tuned on c16, but she has to double check
Leaded fuels now a days have very low lead. That's why many people get away running o2 sensors with very few problems.Pump fuel from the seventies would have killed an o2 sensor very quickly.
As far as race fuels go octane is a poor way of comparing fuels.Brand A's 110 may act closely like Brand B's 114.VP has many fuels that have the same octane rating but act very differently from each other. If you can't get the fuel that it was tuned on then call the fuel maker that your going to use and ask them if its comparable.I've run several fuels on the dyno with the same engine and similar octanes. The all needed different timing and jets (carb) to get the most out of each one.

I have a sunoco 115 (purple fuel) pump right next to my house. As stated above just make sure whatever fuel you select for a race tune you keep running.
