Default Dyno'd the GT28 B16 today.

Well, I made a quick trip up to Torque Freaks today for a couple pulls on the dyno. I street tuned the setup real conservative and have been boosting on it for about 3 weeks now. It was tuned on 10 pounds, but boost seems to fall off some on the top end. I'll lean the a/f out some up top when I get a chance. I was kinda disapointed at the numbers seeing as how my old sohc setup would outperform this at almost the whole rpm range So it's either raise the boost or sell it and build another single cam But this setup feels good. Gets good traction(traction in all gears except first when the roads are a little warm) Setup is as follows. I should have some video footage up within a couple days. Thanks for looking. BTW to the guys at torque freaks once again. Excellent service.
-Stock B16A SIR2 with B16 LSD tranny
-Homemade EL mani
-GT28R
-2.5" dp through a tanabe resonator and open exhaust a little after the shifter.
-JRC FMIC
-2" piping to intercooler, 2.5" after
-DSM BOV
-DSM 450's
-Uberdata

My old setup

Just a question... Why did you sell your SOHC setup, it seemed pretty complete.

Those numbers do seem a bit low. My old non-GT T28 made almost as much on 6psi...this was on a B20. What is the a/r on the turbine housing? Have you checked to be sure if everything is connected properly, no boost leaks, etc...

Sold the SOHC setup because I had too much money into it at the time and needed the cash.

There aren't any boost leaks. It's the standard GT28R housing. I think it's just because it's a conservative tune. I didn't touch the timing maps at all.

EDIT. just noticed that the a/f in the higher rpms is alittle rich. if you pulled it back to 12.0 instead of being in the 11s. i think you would add some higher hp.

setup looks good.

id make a homemade pressure tester, and make sure you charge pipes aren't leaking.

also id check you pipes after the intercooler to see if they warm up atall. you could be getting some heat soak. my old setup was bad, so i had to put washers in under the hood, and heat wrap the manifold.

Thanks

Good ideas. The only reason I said there aren't any leaks is because when I ran it off the wg it was right at ~6 pounds which is where most said it was set at. But, there could be a leak somewhere.

How much timing were you runing if conservative there is probablly more power to be made there.

A/F won't net you THAT much gain. Timing is where the power is at.

THose numbers seem a little low. Hopefully they'll just a little after changing the timing and fuel around. GL with it! Your SOHC was nice!

I got that problem right now. My pipe after the IC get's really ******* hot. I need heatwrap.

heat soak robed me a full second in the 1/4 mile. charge pipe from throttle body to bov was to hot to touch. put washers under the hood to raise the back, and headwraped the manifold, and downpipe, and i bet i droped the intake temps by 100degress or more. huge differance!!!

also wraping the downpipe can be more important then wraping the manifold. becuase it will keep your oil cooler, and your engine will run cooler.

id check for some boost leaks, and possibly buy fomr $30 heat wrape and wrap your manifold, and downpipe. leaning out that a/f will help too.

Im gonna agree. With more tuning you could easily get another 20-30hp outa it.

Here is the map. Any tips? I'm thinking maybe add a degree at 5-11 from 6K up? Or not If I had more money to blow I would have spent more time on the dyno and played around with the timing. Thanks.

Hi,

hmm... did you reduce the compression ratio or is it stock (10.2:1) ?
i run a B16 with 8psi and a old T3 Turbo with much less timing under boost and got 236 WHP

very strange... i thought the GT28 would make even more power then my old T3 Turbo...

Timmay, I probably would have blown it up at some point

RyanAutry, yea I saw your post when I was searching for B16 numbers.

1Guamracer, it's always been pretty much tuned. I tuned it all motor on 450's, and then tuned it the day the turbo setup went on. I have put over 10,000 miles on the motor since I've had it.

mrx, comp ratio is stock as far as I know. 10.4:1.

you are right i have a G1 B16 and there the stock CR is 10.2:1 ... but 10.2 or 10.4 doesn't metter, i only want to know if you run high CR or something around 9:1 or so...

what fuel are you running (octane)
i even thought my tune is conservative but when i see your timing map i can advance 3-4° without problems...

what does the others think of the ignition map? is it conservative?

i think it is ok so... but even with this ign. map you have to make a bit more power on 10 psi...
sure you don't have boost leaks? very strange...

Best regards
Malte.

How come you came up through the frame with the intercooler piping on the drivers side?

I'm curious cause I had an ek B18c w/turbo setup, switching it all over to an EG right now and I'm working on the intercooler piping. I was going to just use a "U" bend on that side but wondering why you didn't?

Thanks,

Mike

Be careful with the plastic 2g dsm bov.
They have been known to leak at around 14 psi.

I run one, I always liked the sound.
