Default dyno numbers please evaluate.

I went to the dyno today to "fine" tune my car.
Here's my set-up
b16a
garrett t3t4 (.57 trim .63 ar)
greddy intercooler
tial wg (.65 bar)
rc 310cc injectors
vortec 4:1 fmu
field sfc
holley 255lph fuel pump.
After leaning it out a little in the top end and richening the low end, I ended up with 226whp and 160ft lbs of tq.
my timing is set at 14 degrees, new plugs, wires, cap and rotor. I was really hopeing for closer to 250wp but as you can see that never happend. I'm up 27 peak whp from previous dyno run, and about 15 whp all through out the mid range (i'm happy about that) from about 5krpm- 7krpm.
My vtec switchover was set at 6k rpm (provided the least dip in power and smoothest transition)....any idea's on how to improve my numbers? My goal to to reach 250whp at the same psi.
oh and i have 2.5'' exhaust and dp.
last question, the muffler i have is 2.5'' in and out, would it restrict exhaust if i ran 3'' all the way back then a 2.5'' muffler? Should i just buy a new muffler that is 3''? thanks again guy's/ gals..

why run a muffler at all? just run 3 inch piping all the way back...if you MUST, just use a 3 inch resonator for like $30....

Local police love to harass people with loud exhaust, plus i like to make fun of people that have raspy sounding fart pipes, so it's kind of hipocritical for me to have a loud fart pipe while makig fun of ricers .....I like the quiet sound, sleeper

a resonator will get rid of that raspy sound and make it more quiet.

I have a 12'' resinator, hollow cat, and muffler! The guy at the shop said my dp could be cleaned up a little (i.e 3'' and cleaner bend). I trust things coming from a guy who has a street driven 600+hp malibu.

I guess I'm trying to figure out where to focus my attenion? exhaust or intercooler (specs are 6x2x18). I'm thinking of runing 3'' turbo back with no cat.

btw my air/fuel ratio is between 12.2- 12.4 from 4k rpm - 7,500 rpm, and from 7,500 rpm - 8,200 rpm it was 11.9 :1..

Im no expert, but I would say your running too lean.
4:1 on the FMU seems a bit weak, for running 310's.
I'm running 8:1 FMU on 310's, and I still detect a hint of detonation on my plugs.
And thats with 15º base timing, and a 4º slope retarded at 6000RPMS.

Good numbers for the b16, but with that much boost, I would think the b16 had more to offer. My setup last put down 267@8psi, and that was BEFORE the vari-curve controller was put in, so now I imagine it would be a bit better.

Good luck!

!
I have a odd ecu, for some raeason it just dumps the fuel in.I had a 8:1 fmu at first and there was to much fuel, the car would stopp accelerating once vtec switched. So i went down to a 6:1 and solved the problem (well it ran better). I went to the dyno and my air/fuel ratio was 10:1+ (the wide band o2 won't read any richer then 10:1) so I put the 4:1 fmu in. did a comlete tune up (plugs, cap, rotor, wires, oil) and installed the sfc. This time back on the dyno I picked up 27whp peak and between 12-17whp in the mid range.
My air/fuel ratio out of boost is between 13.0 - 14.0 and once in boost my air/fuel ratio is between 11.9 - 12.4...the 11.9 being the top end.
I had to pull fuel out with the sfc to get the 12.0 air/fuel ratio (also picking up 9whp in the process).
Timing is fine, and my airfuel ratio if anything is a little on the rich side which is fine by me because it provides a safety buffer.

You said your timing is set at 14 degrees which is the reason that you arent making that great of power. On 9lbs, you should be at 26-27 degrees of total timing in boost. This is a bit more than .5 degree per lb of boost. You'll pick up another 40-50hp by adding the timing back in.

DAMN!!?? With the identical set up running 7psi I made 219hp and 168tq. Only difference is V-AFC, 12:1 FMU slightly bigger IC adn Tanabe exaust
2000 SI
Stock B16A
OBD 1 P30
From 4500 and on A/F is about 12ish till red line

The 14 degree's is initial timing. I have now way to change the timing under boost. All i've done was retard the timing from 16 degree's to 14 degree's.

If you are going to stay at 9psi, put back your origanal timing, that is where you are losing your power. Your shouldn't have to change the timing untill up areound 10 or more psi.

So your saying to run stock timing? (16 degrees). You think it will be fine at stock timing? I've always run my timing retarded a little as a safe guard. Than agakn thats the same thing my mechanic recomended (stock timing). he said if it needs any timing pulled, the knock sensor will do it's job. Yeah 9 psi is where it's staying.

Dude, don't advance your timing any more. It will net you jack ****.

I am running the apexi kit on a ls and I dynoed it with stock timing and 10psi. I made 243 hp and 233 tq but I was pinging from 4k to redline with my fuel system pretty much tapped out. I retarded the timing to 10 degrees and I only lost 5hp but more importantly, I lost the ping.

I think your turbo is too big unless you are running upwards of 1 bar.

Yeah I don't think that i'm going to do anything with the timing until I go back to the dyno. As of rite now the car runs good, no pinging, air fuel ratio is good, but power is just down (imo). I guess I'll have to look into runing new exhaust, hell I picked up 17whp by doing a tune up (plugs, wires, cap and rotor) and advancing my timing from 12 degree's to 14 degree's. So maybe by cleaning my exhaust up I can pick up a few more hp.......233 ft lbs of tq

Next time you go to the dyno, run open downpipe for a test. If you don't see the numbers you are wanting then you'll know not to shell out the cash on an exhaust.

I run a 2.5" dp, test pipe, and thermal cat back. I don't think I could take the noise of a 3".

Good call, I have a 2.5'' dp but it does have a pretty sharp bend rite out of the turbo in order to clear the radiator fan, I think that i'm going to have it redone to clean it up.....not expecting much but as the tuner said, I can probably pick up 5 hp or so by doing that....thanks...

turn up the boost

I know that's not what you want to hear but you could be making more power with a couple more lbs in the chamber

sure, my engine can handle 18psi or so stock rite?
I think 9psi is enough for a stock engine.
do these numbers seem low? i've seen beween 205whp (10psi) and 283whp (10psi also) without using standalone, (vafc)....I guess i was just expecting more.......
