Dumb question: smoke from turbo ...
Okay this is probably a dumb question, but recently I've been getting smoke coming up from the hood of the car. When I check, the smoke appears to be coming from the turbo, between the front of the exhaust housing and the oil feed. The more I boost, the more smoke it seems. No boost = minimal or no smoke.
I also occasionally get white/blue smoke going into boost, not much but it's noticable. I'm guessing the turbo seals
? If so, how much does it normally cost to rebuild?
I'm going to pull the turbo off this weekend and double check, but just wanted to see what everyone thinks before I go through the trouble ....

umm... did you prep the turbo when you first started it up?? like crank the engine over without ignition, so it lubes the seals before you first fire it up??? you might have burnt out your seals cause there was no lube when you first started it up..
BUMP.
Anyone have any ideas on this? I checked the charge pipes this weekend and there were no oil there, but I didn't get a chance to pull the turbo off and really check everything. Would the oil return line not draining fast enough cause smoking in the turbo? Like the oil is backing up or something?
Anyone?

you sound like you got a leak in you oil line going to or from your turbo getting on your down pipe or on you manifold. take the lines off and put new teflon tape and try that .
