Default DRAG GEN 3 QUESTION

Hi, I am new to turbos and I am getting one for my 2001 GSR in 2 weeks. Im gettin the drag 3 kit. But my question is, can I just put in a inlinepro head gasket to make it run more reliable??? What else do I need to know about the kit before I buy and install it. Any tips on install or anything?? Please let me know. If you have read this far, I thank you for your time.

get the kit from ben@importparts.com, thats the first thing...

second thing is get a new oil return line setup. the one that comes with the drag kit is a POS. here's the parts you need for the oil return line....
#400100 - the steel braid hose (i got 2ft just in case)
#829010 - 90 degrees AN to Male fitting (to connect to the turbo housing)
#804610 - 45 degrees swivel seal (to connect to the oil pan from the turbo)
#967110 - steel weld fitting (to weld to the oil pan)
All these parts I bought from http://www.anplumbing.com, and will run about $100.

I dont think you need a inlinepro head gasket. My car is basically stock with the drag kit and its fine.

Make sure you get a Tial wastegate instead of the turbonetics deltagate wastegate that comes with the kit...

guess thats all i can remember for now...

ok thanx........i think i heard someone with a problem clearing the hood with a tial wastegate. How much are the tials??? what about hks????
I was thinking about buying it from ben@import parts, but my friend has a brand new kit for 2500 and i figured with the money i saved here i can buy the extras.
Did you run into any fitment problems with install?

oh ok...its all coming back to me now...

- had to cut the webbing on the block so make room for the compressor side of the turbo...
- had to cut the cooling fan shroud to clear the compressor housing....
- you have to shave alittle of the drag manifold to get the oil dipstick through (actually had to shave alot)

I have no clearance issues with my tial wastegate, but I dont use the top port of the wastegate. If you plan on using the top port, you should order a fitting from anplumbing.com, instead of using the ones that come with the tial wastegate, soo you can clear your hood.....part #984204

get installation instructions from importparts.com...click on customer service, you'll see it...

refer to dustin's pictures (which help ALOT!!) http://imglib.************/index.cgi?cmd=viewlib&id=1

DO NOT take your oil pan to a local muffler shop to get the oil return fitting welded. Make sure you take it to someone who actually knows what they are doing...

definitly install it yourself.. The amount of knowledge u learn about your car just from installing a turbo kit is amazing.. you dont need the headgasket but get a clutch, boost gauge, EGT gauge, and boost controller to go along with the kit.. and missing link too

instead of spending more money on parts you don't need, when it comes to the tial you can just grind down the bolt that goes into the top port to clear your hood.
